newbie tire question

hello all, im new here, sold my 03 mustang gt :*( and had to get a truck, needed one for work cus my the pos chevy i had took a dump, so was forced to sell the stang(im still hurting) .....

anyways i've always favored ford's so i got a 2003 F150 fx4 extended cab.

my question is, whats the biggest tire i can fit, stock wheels, no lift ?

my chevy was tucking 33's but barely, dont want any rubbing or clearance issues, but i want a more aggressive set of rubbers. the chevy had mastercraft courser mt's, i seemed to like them but never really having a nice truck, i dont know much about truck tires since i've always been a car guy.

any input would be appreciated, thanks people

Everything I've read suggests a 285/75-16 should fit nicely. A 305/70-16 may be absolute biggest you could fit without a major lift. Since you have 4x4 you could raise your torsion bars for a bit more clearance on the front. A 285 would probably be your best bet though with no modifications.

What's the rim size??

285/70R17 & 295/70R17 fit with no problems. 305/70R17 and 315/70R17 fit if the torsion bar is cranksed all te way up and you trim a little plastic. I'd stick to no more than 295/70R17 for performance reasons and larger looks stuffed to me.

damn, thats the look i want did you buy the truck with the stuff already on or what, i want those wheels damnit, haha, if you dont mind me asking, and since im a noob with truck suspension, do you or any others on here have any suggestions on a mild lift, i'd rather go suspension than body, thinking 4" or so?

links to good sites with good prices on lifts would be great, thanks guys

Rancho makes a 4" suspension lift for your truck. Other than that you will be looking at 6" lifts. Actually I think RCD has a 5" lift. All of the kits will run you around $1500 or more, plus install.

Or you could go the body lift route, a 3" Performance Accessories body lift will run less than $300.

You can check out http://www.4wheelparts.com to get started.

Stock you can fit 285's with no problem. If you want a wider tire, you can fit some 305s which would require leveling out the truck or trimming some plastic. If you plan to stick with the stock wheels, I would just get 285's.

I PUT THEM ON 2 DAYS AFTER I GOT HER. NO LIFT I JUST CRANKED UP THE T-BARS A LITTLE. I WAS ALSO LOOKING INTO GETTING A SUSP. LIFT, BUT AFTER I THREW ON THE NEW RIMS AND TIRES, IT LOOKS GOOD TO ME SO I'LL PROBABLY LEAVE IT ALONE FOR A WHILE. I WAS LOOKING @ FABTECH'S 6'' KIT.
