Another good tire pressure question...

Well yesterday I had some 265/75/16's put on my 01 XLT (Firestone Destination LE's) and the tire has a max psi of 44 psi, the truck manual (stock tires were 235/70/16's) says to run at 35 psi, and the Dealer put 30 psi in the tires....

so which one should I use?.. tire max (44 psi), truck rating (35 psi), or the tire pressure the Firestone place put in (30 psi)?

By 44 psi Max I determine you have P metric tires. Tailor the ride you desire to your tire pressure, I'd go 32-35 psi unloaded, and creep up towards the 44 max if towing or carrying a heavy load. 30 psi is for ride comfort only(and this burned Fords' *** during the Firestone/Explorer fiasco) so adjust them as you prefer.Hope that helps.

If the MAX is 44, you will generally run less than that for everyday driving (unless you haul heavy loads every day).

Just keep an eye on the tire wear and that will be your best indicator.

do not take this as gospel, but over the years I have zeroed in on a formula that provides (so far) a decent compromise between comfort, mileage and tire wear. At least on the non-super-specialized tires I usually run.
That is take the max PSI and lower the actual pressure by 15%.

so on your 44psi's try 37. On my 35 max I run 30. This has served me well and keeps it simple for me. Of course running in sand, rock crawling, nearing the limits of the speed rating and weight of your load will all come into play and must be accounted for. Give it a try...maybe I can become famous for something

Good on ya guys....

I think i will run around 37 or so in them. 30 just seemed a little low to me, and I hardly ever haul anything of any great weight, its just that when you get addicted to having a truck and having the women ask you to help them move something, then well... well.. your addicted.
