what is the best method to use to clean the white lettering on tires....WITHOUT doing harm or damage to rims with chemicals.....any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks

 

mine are pretty nasty too. white letters are a big thing to me as well. really the only way is soap and water with elbow grease. dont get too mean with them though or it will take the white lettering off. they do make a crayon as well to put white on dingy letters.

 

The kitchen product called SOS Pads.

 

I use straight Simple Green concentrate and a stiff scrub brush. Simple Green is also great on the rims so you don't have to worry about it... Hell, Simple Green is great for a lot of things!

 

I used to use something called "bleech white" or something like that, but believe it or not the best thing I have found for white letters is to slowly use the high pressure hot soap at the car wash. Just get far enough away to cover the entire letters (only 4"-6" away from the tire), and slowly go around the tire. Then go back, and get the black areas... This is what I used to do with the BF's I had on my truck, and they always looked great...

I don't like all the greasy shiny stuff some people put on afterwards... I would just wash them, and leave them... Made them look like new tires...

 

I just use a stiff bristled cleaning brush with soap and water, works really well for cleaning the white lettering on my BFGs.

Obviously you shouldnt use this on your paint or wheels

 

Wesley's Bleach White, just keep it on the tire, quick scrub with a brush and they'll be pearly white

 

This sounds really stupid, but it works--bleaching toothpaste and a old toothbrush

 

I've got my tires mounted with the white letters on the inside but when I did have them facing out. . .Ajax and a scrub brush cleaned them up nicely.

 

i spray Fantisk all over the tire, scrub with a tire brush and rinse. the white letters look like new. i then put the dressing on the tires after they dry. any residue that is left on white letters after the add the dressing i just wipe off. this has worked for me since i've been driving cars/trucks for the last 27 years.

 

I use Wesltey's bleach white it works great.
it is amazing

 

I use either Wesley's Bleech White or Spray nine and a stiff nylon brush. Just make sure not to wet the tire before you spray on either. All that does is dilute the product. Also make sure what you use is not petroleum based. Petroleum based products damage or destroy rubber.
So far I have not had any problem with my wheels, even with over spray. Just make sure to rinse and wash them after you have scrubbed the tires.

Just try Mr Clean Eraser for autos, cleans white letters just great

 

I just started using the dupont teflon rim cleaner. I spray the entire tire and rim with water and get it good and cool, than spray both with the teflon cleaner, use a stiff brush on the white letters, than the tire, a sponge on the rim and hose off with loads of water although that is mostly for the rims. I find this new product works at least as well as bleeche white and it is made for rims so you don't have to worry about any damage there. My biggest rave about this product though is that it works very well on polished aluminium as long as it is cool first. I have not found any other product that works as well on my eagle alloy rims. I got a little off subject however I am very impressed so far. You can actualy watch the brake dust disenigrate as you spray.
