dragging brake
On my 98 f150 I have been trying to cure the left front brake from dragging with no success. new rotors, pads.flex lines caliper.dealer has no idea what is wrong,it started when I needed my first pad change and now I need to replace the pads @ rotor again, need help Len
You replaced the caliper, rotor, brake line, and still it drags???
The only things left is the brake booster, master cylinder and the ABS system (if equipped). Possibly something wrong with the proportioning valve?
You sure it was new caliper they installed?
Not your old one rebuilt?
I had a problem with a caliper piston hanging up. Took it to the local parts house to match a replacement. Didn't have one in stock, ordered it and left the old one for core deposit. What they did was, they rebuilt my caliper and gave it back. Had the same problem as before.

no it's a new rebuilt caliper,ABS on the rear,a rebuilt prop valve is $403.00 at dealer but don't want to go there unless I'm shure its the problem, this has been going on for two yrs. just turned 85000km,it doesn't pull on the weel it just drags and makes my wheel black and wears every thing out. I used 3 sets of pads on the left side and I;m still on the first set I put on the right side,I kept putting on the extra pads on the left side,I bought 1 set and napa gave me a set at less than half price to see if it was the pads, now there all used up and I have to do something again. Rotor, caliper, pads,$304.00 plus tax of 15% and thats with 20% off Len
is there one pad that is wearing faster on the left side? like the piston side pad or the outer pad? do they seem to be wearing at an angle?
i had a brake drag on right front that ended up needing a new brake hose.

in that case i would suspect sticking caliper slides not letting the caliper move freely. all you have to do to check these is unbolt the 2 bolts from the caliper then pull the rods with the rubber boots on them out. if they come out see if they look dry or have any rust build up on them. if they are really hard to get out or dont move freely that is probably what is wearing the pads faster.
also look at the back of the rotor for deep grooves or rough surface.

just put another pad on the left front, when the pistons are pushed back the caliper slides very smooth,no restrictions at all,I'm thinking the prop. valva is the peoblem, holding pressure on. or the caliper is a bad rebuild. Len

There are stainless steel slides that the brake pads fit in they get rust build up under these slides. remove the slides they pry out clean the supports with a file or scraper and reinstall clip and pads.
