Best AT/snow tire BFG? REVO? FIRE?
Best AT/snow tire BFG? REVO? FIRE?
Ok guys im pretty much pulling my hair out over this, I live in West michigan smack in the snow belt and I need some kick *** AT tires that rock in the snow.
So far ive been looking at BFG TA/KO and the Revos. But my issue is that very few places around sell the revos so im wondering if i should go with BFG. My other thought is with a mud tire and tire rack says Firestone Destination MT is the best of the best and the rating scores are quite high.
For my needs should i go with a MT? Are they good in snow? Or stay with the AT and if so which one? Cost is not a concern i just want the best.
Help me out guys!
Oh the size is a 285-75-16 Im told its the biggest I can go without a lift.

this is strickly my opion, but i like BFG Mud terrains. they clean themselfs nicely, wear good, not to loud, and look aggresive. but thats my opion. i have had 2 sets of the BFG all-terrains and i dont like them. the cleats hold mud and snow, not to mention rocks.( main reason i dont like them...had chip marks all the bottom of bodies of my trucks) but like i said earlier this is my opion

never owned a firestone tire. like i said, thats my opion. not trying to start an agruement , but Four Wheeler magaizine rates this tire, one of the best tires ever made. Firestone Destination never made that list, and the tire says Baja Champion on the side. I dont think no other tires says that. If the pro's use them and win baja's with them, and magizines say they are one of the best, im sold on them

I didn't buy my 4x4 to climb rocks, race through the desert, or mud bog, but I do drive a lot of miles on snowy icy streets and muddy roads and trails. I have driven over 25,000 miles on my REVO's, and I am extremely happy with them.

IMHO, MT tires are noisy and uncomfortable. A few years ago, Fourwheeler magazine did an article comparing AT tires and MT tires. The AT tires performed as well as the MT's in all but the most extreme catagories.

THE FIRESTONE DESTINATIONS JUST CAME OUT THIS YEAR AROUND JULY OR AUGUST. SO NOT MUCH HAS BEEN PROVEN WITH THEM IN THE SNOW OR ICE. WELL I LIVE IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS AND JUST HAPPENED TO PUT ON A SET OF FIRESTONE DESTINATION AT'S ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO. WELL WEDNESDAY NIGHT WE GOT ABOUT 4 INCHES OF RAIN AND HEAVY WET SNOW..
MOST OF THE RURAL AREAS I LIVE NEAR AND INCLUDING MY TOWN WENT WITH OUT POWER FOR 3 DAYS. WELL I WENT ROAD TRIPPING WITH MY NEW TIRES. AND CAN SAY FIRST HAND WITH OUT A DOUBT PROBABLY THE BEST TIRE I HAVE EVER OWNED. AND I HAVE OWNED A FEW DIFF. BRANDS. BRIDGESTONES, GOODYEARS, MICKEY THOMPSONS, COOPERS, UNIROYALS, AND PIRELLIS...........I WORKED FOR BRIDGESTONE FIRESTONE FOR 7 YEARS BUILDING TIRES..............SO I MAY BE BIAS BUT THIS IS AN HONEST OPINION...........

I've had the BFG TA/KO's on my truck for almost 2 years now and I have no complaints about their capabilities in the ice and snow. I have 4wd but usually I keep it in 2wd unless the roads are really icy then it helps to have the extra traction at the intersections and such. The BFG's get a big

Denham,
So you tried the Firestone Destination AT, I was looking at the MT because Tire rack rated them higher then the Revo's. Since you have so much tire experience would you get Destinations MT over Revo's?

YOUR COMPARING A MUD TERRAIN VERSUS AN ALL TERRAIN......IT DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU WANT........THE DESTINATION MUD TERRAINS ARE AWESOME AND THE REVO ALL TERRAINS ARE GOOD AS WELL.........PERSONALLY IF THE DESTINATION MUD TERRAINS WERE MADE IN 17" I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN THEM..........HOW MUCH HIGHWAY VERSUS JUST LOCAL DRIVING DO YOU DO..........A/T'S WILL BE A BETTER RIDE AND LAST LONGER THAN THE M/T'S........JUST AN HONEST OPINION

I DONT DO ALOT OF HIGHWAY DRIVING BUT LIKE THE LOOK OF THE DESTINATIONS, BUT THE REVO LAST 50K MILES, ARE THE MT'S GOING TO BE REALLY LOUD. MOST IMPORTANTLY WHICH IS BETTER IN THE SNOW AND WET DRIVING, MT OR AT? OR ARE THEY PRETTY MUCH THE SAME?
I WANT AN AGGRESSIVE LOOK, SUPER POWER IN THE SNOW, AND LASTS, THEN LASTLY I GUESS NOISE WOULD BE A FACTOR.
SO IF RIM SIZE ISNT A FACTOR DO U GO REVO'S OR DESTINATIONS?

PERSONALLY I GO WITH THE DESTINATION M/T'S...............I HAVE A BUDDY THAT JUST PUT THEM ON A JEEP..........AND HE LOVES THEM. NOT MUCH NOISE ON THE HIGHWAY. I'M NOT SURE THE MILEAGE ON THE M/T'S. BUT THERE AN EXCELLENT TIRE IN SNOW AND RAIN...........

I had Dueler M/Ts for about 30,000 miles. The tread becomes scalloped/cupped unless you constantly rotate them. Because of that treadwear the ride becomes rough and extremely noisy. Fuel mileage also suffers. I couldn't wait to get rid of them.
When I bought the Revos I went oversize with a 285-75-16 and new aluminum ARE wheels. I got them on the internet as a good package deal, mounted and balanced.
