YOU SHOULD HAVE PLENTY OF OPPORTUNITY TO TEST TIRES IN THE SNOW LIVING IN ALASKA. MY COUSIN JUST MOVED UP THERE A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. LOVES IT.

YOU HAVE SOME REALLY KICK A@@ PICTURES OF GLACIAL ICE..........UNBELIEVABLE STUFF. GREAT PICS.

I have done a bit of tire testing true enough! Thanks for the complements on the pics. The color of glacier ice fascinates me and we were lucky enough live where we had drive up access to a glacier in Cordova (via a very rough 4x4 trail). Beautiful country and we love it too!

I just got back from a Thanksgiving trip on Saturday. I had the opportunity to try out my REVOS (just got them a couple weeks ago) on the highway in rain and snow. I couldn’t be happier. I knew they were rated #1 from my research prior to purchasing them, but actually driving them myself proved to me they are indeed #1. I have the stock 265/70/17 and on the highway they were quiet. Going 75 in the rain was just like on dry roads. We ran into a snowstorm and I slowed down considerably to around 50 because it was blizzard conditions and visibility was minimal. The tires worked great, I didn’t slide once and one time I had to slow down quickly due to a vehicle in front of me out of control and I was able to keep control without any slipping. Last night I was out around town and after a foot of snow (yes 12”) the traction was so great I didn’t have to engage the 4x4!

I’m sold the REVOS are the Dog’s Bullocks! My last set of tires was the BFG AT’s and I’d never go back. Don’t get me wrong I liked the BFG’s but the REVOS have out performed them in the rain and snow. Not sure about wear yet as I just got them, but I hope they last the 6 years my BFG’s did.

Studded tires are legal in Alaska from September 15 to May 1 unless you live South of 60° North Latitude, then the season is September 30 to April 15. Quite a lot of people put them on at the start of the season and run them all winter but I don't even own a set. It really depends on what kind of vehicle you drive and where you live. Here in Juneau we get snow but not tons and they clear the streets quickly after snowfall so there really isn't a reason for me to go get studded tires. If I lived in the interior or made frequent trips to the ski slope it might be different but I don't ski and the interior is way to cold!!

i had bridgestone mudd terrians on my gmc last year and it work great..it swayed a little on the highway though and they were louder then i liked..but i had straight pipes so it wasnt too bad. Right now i have the BFG ko at and i love them. alot quieter on the highway....great snow traction and made it to the hunting shack no problem threw all the mud. i bought the truck used and the guy had the same bfg tires on only problem was the front's were newer then the rear. i just bought 2 new rear's and the fronts have little more then 1/2 tread...still worked great in the 7 inchs we got the other day!!! go with BFG!!! their pricey but great!

I am currently running BFG All Terrain T/A KO's. I probably have another year or two left on them. I'm considering trying the Revo's next time around.

Thumbs up

BFG A/T's are about the best all around tire I ever ran and if you keep them rotated they wear like iron.

thanks Parkerz, but is a MT tire just as good in snow as an AT? If so do you know anything about the Firestone Destination MT, it gets the highest marks.
I bought them and they are just the best tire out in my opinion...I have the A/T's...Its like I have a different truck...a better truck...They run on the rain great and are so quiet I can now hear the CD player...947.60 Canadian...that's balance, new stem, tire throw away fee, 15% HST tax...Money well spent...See my gallary for new tire pictures of my truck...

Had BFG A/T's on my '99 F150.

No issues in snow/wet and quite on HW. Got 65K miles on them before trading truck for an '04! They were still flat with no cupping.

Plan to use again on '04 truck when ready.

If you use M/Ts on pavement ya better get some good earplugs, rotate them monthly, rebalance every 6 months and have some extra gas money laying around.

Better yet, buy some chains and pocket the savings. The chains will be quieter than the M/Ts.
