Question Best A/T Tire for the Mud

Since I do 95% of my driving on pavement, I should probably stick with an A/T tire. But I want the confidence of going through the mud and not getting stuck. Any recommendations?

So I read here, the Bridgestone Dueller Revo's are very popular and I might go with them.

Thanks for the input.

I've got revos and I think they are a good all around tire. They are excellent on dry and wet pavement, and will not hardly hydroplane in standing water. I think they also fair well in mud as well. While I cannot say I have went through some deep bogs with them, I have been in some pretty muddy and slippery clay areas on flat ground and on hills that have slowed down other all terrains. Overall, I think they are a great tire. Saying that, if you want to be different than everyone else, though, try the new **** cepeck radial fc-II. I have heard that it does better than any other all terrain in mud and still does well on the road as well, but I haven't heard of anyone running them yet. Maybe you could be the guinny pig!

I've read a couple of magazine tire test that stated the Mickey Thompsom Baja Radial MTX were better than most all terrian tires in the mud.

Thanks.

If you could reference any tire reviews for A/T tires that "survived" in the mud, that would be great.

And if any of you have had a positive experience, let me know.

Thanks,

Glenn

I have Mikey MTX's and was very pleased with how they handled
the mud. Better than BFG and ProComp A/T in my opinion. They seemed to handle the little bit of snow we have gotten well too. But, they are a little louder, a little harsher, pick up (and throw) more stones, and were more expensive. Not saying they aren't worth it... just saying that the great traction comes at a cost. I myself love the tires. The only thing that I am not happy with is wet road traction. Haven't lost the front end yet, but the rear brakes loose way to easy. Also, this is the first tire I have ever "broke" the sidewall. Hopefully it is just a fluke, the others seem fine and any manufacturing process can let a less than perfect one slip through here and there. If I could keep the bead sealed for as long as the tires last on the ProComps, I would go back to those. But, the stock 17" wheels are just a little too thin for those tires. After 50k I started having slow bead seal leaks all over.

Yokohmama Geolander AT+II's are the best A/T tire for the money period. I had them on my '02 Ranger and just had them installed on my '04 screw. I love them. Alittle loud but great in mud, snow and rain.

WELL SO FAR ON MY 97 F-150 I HAVE HAD THE WRANGLER RTS, AND MICKEY THOMPSON BAJA MTX'S, AND NOW FIRESTONE DESTINATIONS..........BY FAR THE FIRESTONE AT'S ARE THE BEST TIRE I HAVE HAD ON THIS TRUCK...........THE M ICKEYS WERE GREAT AND HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THEM. SURPRISING YOU HAD A SIDEWALL PROBLEM SINCE THEY HAVE A DOUBLE SIDEWALL(4PLY). KEEP IN MIND I HAVE ONLY RAN A P-RATED TIRE AND NOT AN LT TIRE. ALTHOUGH I HAVE NOT EVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH A P RATED TIRE. AND I GOT THE MICKEYS FOR 130.00 A PIECE NOT TO EXPENSIVE IN MY BOOK THEY LASTED ME 60,000 MILES BUT KEEP EM ROTATED EVERY 5000 MILES..........THE FIRESTONES COST ME 87 A PIECE BUT I GOT AN EMPLOYEE DISCOUNT........

I was surprised about the sidewall giving out too, that's why I am not being quick to slam the tires. Stuff happens.

Well, I tried finding the article on the **** cepecks but with no success. Anywho, 4 wheel and offroad tested them in their mag on a dodge (I think they used the 37's) and they said they were the best all terrain tire for mud that they had ever tested. They also had revos in there a couple of issues back on a 90 cherokee running 30/9.50/15's and they said they did good as well. I can tell you first hand that my revo's go through mud like no other all terrain tire I have ran as far as not spinning and climbing up slick embankments (sorry for the spelling, just doesn't look right). Like I said, I haven't ran them through any bogs, but they sure do get around on the muddy roads on our deer lease well.

For what it is worth, I have yet to see an A/T tire that self cleaned enough to keep you from getting stuck. I only use M/T and if I do get stuck, it is usually because I have hit a hole and I am bottomed out. It is never due to lack of traction on the tread.
