I just put new 17" American Racing Black Air Mojaves and 35" BFG All Terrain TA's on my 2004 f150 super crew. It also has the leveling kit on the front. I took it to the dealer to re-calibrate the speedo and all they could do was get it down to the equivalent of 650 Revolutions per mile. The 35"s equate to 601 revelutions per mile. Is a Ford dealer my only option on this? I paid them $40 bucks and it did not get me what I was looking for. The original set-up was at 684 revolutions per mile.

 

Need to get a SuperChip programer to get it to where you want. Look in the Computer Chips Forum and place a Mssg in there for Mike Troyer from Troyer Performance, he should be able to help you-But its going to cost you about $400 bucks but this will also calibrate your shift points and timing which will give you more power to turn those Bad Boys. Well worth the $$

 

I don't know for sure how much different the 04s are versus the 97-03 computers. I know the 99-04 Superdutys and the 99-03 F150s can be programed for a minimum value of 601 rev/mi. You might try a different dealership since I wouldn't imagine that was changed.

I have a 5 speed vs. automatic. Does the bigger tires affect the time on a standard?(4.2 V6)

Computer controlled shift duration applies only to automatics. The larger tires will however throw off your speedometer and odometer.

 

PowerStroke73 is right if its a manual tranny then it wont do anything for that. I talked with the local Ford Dealership and they told me they couldnt adjust my speedo for a larger tire change, the only way was to get a tuner to adjust it myself. But thats not saying all Ford Dealerships cant do it. I would call around to all that are in driving distance and see what they can do-

Option two is
Get with Mike Troyer, he is the one who I will buy my tuner from once I do my purchase of new tires (have to pay off the Credit Card first from the other truck stuff I have purchased).

These are the directions to take to the dealership to show them how to recalibrate the computer. NOTE: These directions are for a SSD with a PSD, but should be the same for the F150s at least up until 03 and 04 Heritage Ed.


1) Ensure all harness connections are plugged in.

2) Using Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) scanner and Version 3.2 or higher Service Card, plug into the DCL connector.


[ADDED: Do not use a service card version later than early 2001 model year. This will not work if you try to use a service card dated after the 2002 models came out. But it will work on 2004 or earlier trucks with PSD engines if you use a Service Card for 2001 or earlier SuperDuties.]

3) Turn Key on w/Engine Off.

4) Select Service Bay Functions

5) Select ABS Module or 4WABS Module depending on application.

6) Select Tire Size/Axle Ratio Configure.

7) Enter tire manufacturer's specification of revs/mile (tire revolutions per mile) into the NGS as the REV.PER MILE figure, preceeded by two zeros.
[ADDED: To have an even more accurate odometer, enter the following rev/mile:

For 285/75R16 tires enter 00636
For 295/75R16 tires enter 00626
For 315/75R16 tires enter 00601

Do not try to enter a number less than 00601.]

8) Select Tone Ring size and verify that 120 is programmed in.

9) Select <Option> and press TRIGGER.

10) Select <Vehicle> and press TRIGGER.

11) Press <Done> and the Module will be reprogrammed.

12) Check Speedo accuracy.
