Big Tires w/out a lift
sorry guys,
I know this is probably a frequently asked question. I have a 99 extended cab with no lift. Its too expensive for me right now, and I also do not want to do alot of trimming on my vehicle. I want to have some mean looking tires. Right now I have 275/65/R17 on my truck, but I want something alot bigger. I would like a tire that does not rub too much when backing up or turning. Can someone give me the exact dimensions of the biggest size tire that I can use without all these changes? I was thinking 31/10.5/R17. Would this be a good idea?
Thanks for your help.

Is your truck a 4x4 or a 4x2? If it's a 4x4, you can fit a tire as large as a 315/70-17 (35x12.50) without a lift. The secret seems to be using the stock 17x7.5 inch wheels, cranking up the torsion bars and trimming some plastic off the front bumper's lower valance. This is pushing the limit and is the absolute largest tire you can run at stock height. If you do not plan to ever lift the truck, you would probably be better advised to stick with a 33 inch tire. Either a 285/70-17 (33x11.50) or a 33x12.50-17 would be a good choice.
If you have a 4x2, you can fit a 285/70-17 on it using the stock wheels. This is also a very tight fit. If you do not plan on a lift in the future, you would probably be better off using a 265/70-17 (32x10.50).
Also, all of the above sizes are for off road style tires (all terrian or mud terrian).
