Question Rotors are warped, what do you recommend

My rotors are warped very bad and my brakes are squeeling so loud! My heads going to spin if I have to listen to it squeel one more time! What do you recommend for replacing the stock rotors? Is there a better set of rotors you guys have used that you will recommend? Also, what pads are you guys using? Thanks!

go to www.tirerack.com and view some of your options. I just ordered Brembo replacement rotors - not very expensive and hopefully better than stock. For pads, I ordered 'Satisfied' Pro Ceramic. Never tried ceramic before, and have not received them yet.

I have not replaced my stock rotors yet. Not warped, but I grooved my left front when one when a replacement pair of pads had an unexpectdly short lifespan (less than 20,000 miles).

IMO, rotors on Ford trucks have been a weak point for years. I know several people that have warped them.

In my opinion, the rotor maunufacturer doesn't matter as much as making sure you put high temperature silicon brake lube on the caliper sliding surfaces. If you don't lubricate the slides, especially is you live in the north where the roads are salted, the calipers won't push away from the rotors when you release the brakes and they will overheat with the resulting warped rotors.

I disagree with roadie. The rotor MRF matters. The Brmbo OEM replacement, Powerslot, or Napa mide-grade rotors are all good.

Anyone try using the Drilled/Slotted Rotors? I found a set for the front for $90 on Ebay. Anyone recommend these or should I stay away from them? Thanks!

I would be leary of using an unreputable brand of drilled and/or slotted rotors. Not putting putting the slots or holes in the right spots could hurt performance. Many people do use Powerslot brand rotors which are considered very reputable.

Are you sure they're warped?
Squeeling brakes are not a sign of warpage.
If you feel the steering wheel pulsate from side to side, a pulsation in the brake pedal, or a rumble when brakes are applied, then yes the rotors are warped.
Squeeling is from bad pad material, worn brakes of glazing of the pads and rotors.

Before I'd spend the money on new, slotted, or drilled rotors, I'd try to find out just what really is wrong.

Not putting putting the slots or holes in the right spots could hurt performance.
Not only that, they could be dangerous. Drilling or improper slotting can cause a rotor to break.

Im sorry, forgot to mention the pedal pulsates extremely bad. I used Raybestos Quietstop Pads. Where do I find the Powerslot Rotors and how much do they run? Thanks!

You can find powerslots and several other rotors at the link for tirerack I posted above. Powerslots are $297 a pair for fronts. FWIW, the Brembo OEM replacements are $142/pair.

For 4wd, Brembo front rotors are $44ea from Tirerack. I found Powerslots for $186/pair at TruckPerformance.com.

Thanks, APT.

The prices I gave were for 2wd which have different rotors. I did not notice that STWater had a 4x4.

I think Truckperformance has the 2wd Powerslot hub/rotors for $230 instead of $300, in case you are interested in them.

Eh, Don't wanna spend that much on rotors. What other smooth rotors do you recommend besides the drilled/slotted ones that will hold up to braking when towing a car? Thanks!

The cheapest rotor I recommend is the Brembo at $44ea. I tried Autozone rotors at $35ea, but the warped after a year. I replaced them with Napa United rotors after some more research and recomendations. I sold the truck to my father in law who tows an enclosed utility trailer 5 days a week who has not had any problems.

Anyone else recommend the Brembo rotors? If so I think I'll order them. I know Brembo is very reputable, just dont know how the rotors are on our trucks. Thanks!
