Thumbs up Speedo Correction for 97 - 98 F-150s

Just wanted to pass on some information with the intention that it will help others...

I have a 98 150 4X2 with the 5.4, E40D, 355LS. The truck came with the Goodyears 2557016. I replaced them with Michelin LTX AT LT265/75/16. My speedo was off 3 - 6 mph. I replaced the factory 20 tooth orange speedo gear with a 19 tooth tan gear. The part number is 17271-C7VP-A. The speedo is now .2% slower than actual speed. This means that when I am going 70, it says I am going 69.9986. As you can see, it is pretty much dead on. I would like to thank Jean Marc for the help on this one. I hope this helps others, as it was very frustrating trying to figure out what gear I needed.

Jim

Thumbs up

Jim,
Thanks for the tip. Do you know if this part fits the 4R70W transmission also?

To be quite honest, I have no idea. It shouldn't be that hard to have the dealer parts guy look up both and compare.

Cool

JSCOTT,
Bought and installed the speedometer gear today. Yes, it fits the 4R70W. Best $7.50 spent in a while.
For anyone else considering wether or not to go through the trouble: the job takes 5-10 minutes.
Thanks again, Jim.
