Hey all, I'm looking at wheels for my '99 4x4 and really like the *Prime* model 208. They are a polished steel with black inlayed swirls which would look great on my black truck. The only problem is, they ONLY come in 15 in. sizes....15x8.5,15x10. now, my question is...since my truck came out with 235.70.16's, why couldn't I just get the 15x10's and go with a taller tire such as the 31X10.50x15? Would this make a big difference in my speedo and performance? I'm not good with the math....Help!! Thanks in advance

I was told that the 15" rims would not fit, as I wanted to put 15" rims on my 97 for the tire choices. The reason given was the wheel would interfere with the caliper. Although I was reading through the owners gallery and saw a pic that the guy had 15" rims on his. He might have done some grinding on the calipers???

i don't know about the 15 inch wheel fitting or not. But don't make a common mistake. The rim size only affects the overall diameter of tires that are metric. examples being.
305/70's on a 16" rim would have a dia of 33 inches (approx.) 305/70's on a 15 in wheel would have a dia of 32 "
but 31x10.5 tires are 31 inches in dia. on both 15 and 16 and even 17in. wheels you just have a shorter sidewall....

Thanks,guys. That's pretty much the same conclusion I was coming to. Why go with a 15 when a 16 the same size will do? Guess I'll have to shop for another type of wheel...! Jim

THE 99.5 F-150 4X4 COMES WITH THE REAR DISC BRAKES. THE SIZE OF THE NEW BRAKE SET UP IS NOT FAVORABLE TO A 15" RIM. YOU CAN USE A 16" RIM AND TIRE SET UP, BUT USUALLY A METRIC TIRE (305 70 R16=33x12.5) WILL BE MORE EXSPENSIVE THAN A 16.5" RIM SET UP (33x12.5 R16.5 TIRE). I WANTED TO STAY WITH A 16" RIM TO HAVE THE OPTION OF RETURNING TO THE STOCK SET UP, BUT THE TIRES ARE USUALLY @ $30 MORE.

15" wheels wont fit our newer F series. The rotor/caliper assembly is too big. Only 16" or bigger wheels will work.

Loser1, I know we've all been told 15's won't work. However I've seen 15's up close and personal on some guys F150 in my buddys apartment complex. I don't know Offset or backspacing but they were 15's . Prime I think

 

Ccla, that just about puts me back to square 1!! LOL. I've just e-mailed my dealer so, I'll wait to see what he says. I've been waiting for a replacement seat cover for almost two months so, I'd better hear back quick or he's going to hear from me again!! I'll keep us posted. Jim

Dealer will say " No Dice on the 15's "

But I've seen em'. 1 key thing to remember, our trucks have a different bolt pattern than any others. If the bolt pattern is 5 on 135 then the rims will work. Cause No other cars Other than Expeditions and F150's take them

 

Well, a 15" wheel might work with a spacer. You would need to clear the rotor/caliper assembly. It would leave the rotor/caliber unprotected (outside the inner wheel) it will also put stress on the wheel bearings causing premature wear.

Thanx, Loser1, good advice. I've e-mailed my dealer but no word back yet. In fact, when I had the truck in for service on 02/4 they saw the ripped seat cover. Now, the salesman is asking ME if they ordered a new cover?!?!?! Why ask me??? I've got a baaad feeling about this, but, I think I'm going to win this one. It is a design error and they already acknowledged this much when the service manager saw the rip. Now, they act as if they've just learned about it?? I don't think so. Thanks for lettin me vent Jim
