Exclamation Down to the wire (literally)

Ok, I was out today doing a few small things to my truck and I started looking at my tires. When I check out my right passenger tire, I see wires sticking out on the inside edge of the tire. The rubber was starting to spilt too on my GY Wranglers that were on it when I got the truck. Well, I guess it's crunch time, I need tires and I need em fast. Ridin around on my spare for now (other 3 looked fine for now). Well, problem is that I can't make my mind up on sizes or brands. I have it down to 3 in each area, BFG AT 265 or 285, Cooper S/T (tread like a BFG) only come in 265, or Pro Comp 305's (can't wait till July for 265). My troubles are that I am not for sure if the 285 or 305 will fit. Second is I can't wait two weeks to have tires shipped to me and every place around here wants a fortune for BFG and no one carries Pro Comps's. I guess I just need to vent my frustration, sorry. Any ideas why only the inside wore so bad on one tire? Had it aligned about 15000 ago, guess it was cause I didn't rotate them every 6000 on the dot. WHat do you all think? Heres what I have found so far in prices, lookin at rims too. BFG AT w/ AR Baja 265 is 1135 or 1175 for 285's or Pro Comp 305 w AR Baja $1205 (why more, should be cheaper), this is at National Tire & Wheel by the way. Then theres the Cooper's for 480 (no rim prices figured in). Sorry to babble, just too much going on right now. Be glad when it's over.

Well the 285s will fit no problem. If you wanted to save some money you could put them on your stock rims for now. They fit fine on mine. If you go with the 305s you pretty much have to get new rims. But I would recommend that you get the BFGs. We have a set of them on my dads F150 and they are great.

Bridgestone AT is one that almost everyone has in stock. Great tire to consider.

Get 285s...youll like the stance itll give your truck...and they'll fit with no rubbing, i had em for a while when the truck was stock...you CAN fit 305s on your stock rim, i fit a 315 on my stock rim for a couple months...it just wore a little faster cause it bubbled more...so i got new tires and new rims the next time...but a 305 should be better than my 315s and a 285 would be perfect...i'd go 285 on a stock rim til you feel like spending more for rims...plus, i think it fills in those wheel wells nicely...hope this helps...

I've seen a lot of 285's on stock rims, and they look very good. Check out JMC's MTs on the stock 16's, they fit nicely.

Well, I may have taken the wrong step, not sure yet. I had a local tire store order me 4 Cooper S/T's 265. Come to find out they do not make a 285 in the S/T. Now you guys are making me think I need to cancel the tire order to get bigger tires. Should I? I could get a 285 in some other Cooper there or I could drop them and get the tires else where. I mean I do not off road that much (hardly any, no hardcore), and don't want to wear everything out faster, but a big tire just looks good. Too many choices!
I also had them order me 4 AR Baja 16x8 rims with traditonal style caps. They did not have any of the lug nuts to fit it, so now I am in search of the right lug nuts. Any one know what type I need for Baja rims, conical closed end, conical open end? Heck, I 'll post it in a seperate thread.

Not that it matters or that anyone cares but I'll give you all an update anyways. I canceled the order on the Coopers and AR's , I was going to order some BFG 285's and AR's from National Tire and Wheel for about 1175 then 67 shipping then alignment was going to be about 50 so 1292 total, then I stopped into Tire Discounters and they priced me 265BFG's and AR's for 1261 mounted, balance, free rotation and a alignment, 285's would be about 8 more a tire, so 1293. Got to thinkin and I wanna keep my truck pretty street drivable so I might go 265's. I will post a new thread on 285's and the questions I have so reply there please for the 285 comments.

Just my experince, and the only difference is I was debating between the 255/70 or 265/75..... I went with the 255/70 because they were better looking then the 235's that were on it originally! Well, I was never satisfied with that decision. Every time I looked at the truck, I wished I had gotten the 265's.... I finally swapped them out after only a month. Cost me an extra $250 to do it, but I was much, much happier after wards. I really like the 265's. My wife noticed the difference the first time she tried to get in. She had to step up just that much more. So had to tell her what I did!!! My antenna hit the top of the garage door too! Didn't do that with the 255's.

So the moral of this long story is get the larger tire, you'll just wish you did later and get them anyway!!

Good luck!

I went all out today. GOt BFG AT 285's on 16x8 Baja's. Looks sweet, no major rubbing, had to trim about an 1 inch of plastic on pass fender liner and 1/2 off my mud flaps. Just plastic who gvies a crap, you can't notice it's gone. Only complaint is a slight vibration, that I might get fixed. I'll get some pics up here soon. Thanks a million for all the help guys. Tell ya how well I like them once I drive more.
