Question What 16" size is same as stock 17" size with ORP

I am looking for a tire/wheel combo that will give me close to the same "stance" as the stock 17" ORP does. I think they are 265??? I was thinking of going to 285/75/16 on 16X8 wheels. Will this be taller or the same or what? Thanks for the help.

If you want the same tires that come on the 17" rims you want to get some 265/75/16 tires. They 285/75/16 tires are larger than the 265s. I just got a set of 285s, had to upgrade after my 265s went bad on me. I like they way they look on my truck.

Question

Wouldn't there be a height difference with the 16" tires? I want something with the same height and stance that the ORP has. I am pretty dumb when it comes to tires and wheels. Thought the ORP came with 265 17's but thought that 265 16's would still be shorter?

the sidewall aspect is what helps determine the height of the tire. 265/70 on a 17" rim is the same height as a 265/75 on a 16" rim is the same height as a 265/80 on a 15" rim, etc. I learned this back on the days of my old Mustangs, when they went from the 225/60r15 to the 225/55r16.

Search the net, i used to have it bookmarked, but there is a calculator for tire height and all that sort of stuff.

SCOOBY14B,
To get the same diameter (height) of your ORP 17" stock tires with a 16" rim, you'll need to find either 285/70R16 or 265/75R16. They each are approximately 31.6" in diameter. Don't know if both those sizes are available or not, but they'll both give you the same height as your stock setup. I always prefer the wider tread width, in which case I'd go for the 285/70's. The tread width of the 285/70's is 6.7" and the width of the 265/75's is 5.2". Hope this info helps. Good luck.

To come:
Ford Motorsports headers
Ford Motorsports 9mm plug wires w/ plugs?
Autometer fuel pressure gauge
Superchip
4.10 rear w/ 23-tooth speedo gear (gotta read right!)

Wishful thinking:
SVT 18" Lightning rims (painted Prairie Tan to match two-tone) w/ 285/55R18 Yokohama AVS's

Formula example 285/75/16

285 x .03937 = 11.22 tire width in mm to inchs

11.22 x 75% = 8.41 tire section height (from tire bead to edge)

8.41 x 2 + 16 = 32.83 section height x two plus rim diamter equals tire height

I switched from the General 550AS tires to 265/75/R16 Goodyear Wranglers RT/S. This gave me the same height as the 17 inch wheels. I also had to change my VSS (velocity speed sensor) gear to adjust for the increased diameter.

Cool

I did the same thing a while back. I went from 265/17's to 265/16's. They are the same height, and no change in speedo or anything. Get the 265/16, all will be fine.

Question

So if I replace the stock 255's with 265/75/16, it will have the same stance and height as an F150 with ORP and 265's on 17's? Even though the wheels are 1" taller?
