i need bigger than 235/70/16
i still have the stock 235/70/16 goodyears on my 99 4x4 5.4 sc f150. i,m getting the BFG A/T but not sure on the size. either 265/75/16 or 285/75/16. are there any other sizes or things i need to know before getting them
265 will definitely fit, Im not exactly sure about the 285's but I think they will.
remember that when you get bigger tires you will lose some power, and lower gas mileage. You will also probably need to look at getting your speedo corrected making that much of a jump.

Both will fit.
I just put BFG AT 265/75/16's on and I like them alot. No noticable power loss, still trying to figure mileage loss if any. I was going back and forth between the 285's & 265's.
IMO the 285's look better with the truck lifted 2-3 inches. They fill the wheel well too much.

I have both 265's and 285's. The 265's for highway driving, and the 285's for off-roading. They both fit fine without any rubbing, but the 285 mud tires definately look much better. They almost look like they came with the truck in terms of proper look.
BELOW IS A PIC OF MY TRUCK WITH 285/75/16 GOODYEAR MTR'S

tkarter if its a newer truck they change it in the computer and older ones i believe they have to change a small gear that turns your speedo

It is a 2000 and it changes in the computer. Ford tells me there is not proper tire size to configure the speedo to work correctly with 265/75/16 tires. I believe there is a way to tell it what to do just not sure how to go about doing that

Tkarter,
I upgraded from P235/70R/16 to LT265/75R16's, that's a 9% speedo change. I had a Ford dealer re-program the computer, it took the tech about 10 min. I asked the tech about the tire being a non-stock tire size.... he said it was no problem, he just plugged in the new tire ratio's and the diagnostic computer did the rest.
After the reprograming the tranny shifting seemed to improve also. A while later I had the speedo varified by a Illinois State trooper. He gave me a warning for doing 74mph, which was exactly where I had the cruise set.
On the stock 16x7 wheel, the largest tire any tire mfg recommended was a LT265/75R16. A 285 would void any tire mfg warranty by exceeding tire specificaitons. Sure they can be mounted, but any accident linked to mounting beyond recommended wheel widths could be a liability issue for the owner.

Photos on a 2WD?
I know that most of you have 4x4's, but I was curious if anyone in here has photos of a 2WD with 265/70/16 or 265/75/16's? A couple days ago there was a discussion as to what 'bigger' size you could put on a 2WD using the XLT rims (Mine's a 2000 XLT 2WD), and someone mentioned that while 265/75's would fit...it would make it look like you're trying to be a 4x4, and that 265/70's were better on a 2WD.
I'm fixin to get new tires any day now, but before I put the $$$ down on the BFG A/T's I want, I want to make sure I get the right size.
Any opinions for a lowly 2WDer like me?
Thanks,
Adam

Just got off the phone with the local Ford Dealer and he states that he has never heard of re-programming for tire size??
So I grab the Snap-On guy and he says that I need to pick up a SuperChip programmer??
Aggggghhhh.........

Thanks guys now all I got to do is convince one of the two Ford dealers that keep muffing the change in the speedo that it can be done.
I think any F150 2wd or 4wd would look fine with the 265/75/16's on the stock wheels. It is correcting the speedo that stinks. Those don't raise the ride hieght much but just enough IMHO.
It also throws the timing off a bit too. Back to the old pinging problem once again LOL
