Red face BFG A/T KO or Bridgestone Dueler REVO??

Guys,

I'm just about ready for new rubber and I like these two tires. I do mostly street driving but there is a reasonable amount of winter and off road driving where I use 4 wheel drive. What do you all think about these tires and give me your opinions about raod noise, durability, handling on and off road, taraction, etc/. The BFG's might run $190 a tire and the REVO's $152 or so.

Thanks.

I have had both, but neither for very long. I bought Revos in 265/70R17 for my old truck last September. Absolutely no complaints over 10k miles. Then I got a new truck and had to replace the crappy RT/S tires first thing. A couple local tire stores offered $300 towards the new ones of my choice and these two were the only ones I was considering. I only considered the BFG because it comes in a little larger size. I would not have gone with it in the stock size as I don't believe it is any better a tire for my purposes. Rain, snow, light off-roading is all I do and the Revo was flawless. It hasn't even been a week with the BFG's, but they are quiet on dry roads. They both look cool in different ways, but I prefer the Revo look except the size difference.

Thanks.

I saw where a guy by the handle of Gearhead bought BFG's AT in a 285/70R/17 and I have a an open question to him and anybody who is running this diameter tire to see if there is a loss of power that is significant with the 3.55 set of gears when you switch to the larger tire from the 265-70 /17. I might also get the LT version.

Screwdriver,

They aren't a noisy tire, they aren't a Michelin Highway tread either. I can't hear them over my tunes (which aren't all that loud) ever. If I have the windows down and the radio off I can hear the tires. Yes, I have the 3.55 gears. I've got most of the available bolt-ons (short of a huffer) added to my truck. Torque and Horse Power loss aren't a concern at all. I don't think the average guy would notice much of a difference. I did have the Speedo recalibrated with my SuperChip to keep the M.P.H. correct. The Tri-Guard sidewall and Rancho RSX's make it ride a little stiffer, I kinda like that.

There are a couple of pics in my gallery.

i bought a pair for the bridgestones back in dec (265/70/16) i have had no problems at all with them i had on there before Michilin MS on there and they had horrible off road traction, horrible wet traction and i can only imagine how bad the snow traction would be, but i love my bridgestones they offer excelent wet and dry traction far better then any tire i have ever used, off road is good aslong as it is not too heavy of mud, i never hear them at all on the highway, but then agin i have flowmasters so i din't hear much other then my stero and exaust. also i herd that the BFG At k/o have a problem with hydroplanning, and where i live it rains alot. but my tires have worn very well and are all around good tires, (not very good drag racing tires though)

Thumbs up Thanks Gearhead.

I really would like to get the BFG AT's but I am unsure whether to get the 285's or just stick with the 265/17's. I don't have any horsepower mods except for a drop in K&N filter. The larger diamater tire means a taller gear essentially and if the loss of power to the wheels is inconsequential then maybe I can swing the 285's instead of the 265's. I was thinking the 285's might look better but haven't seen any pics of Supercrews with the 265 BFGs. Also the BFG AT's are LT designated with a 6 ply and I like the stiffer sidewall too. Goes with my Edelbrock shocks. Any more thoughts are appreciated and by the way I liked your rig, looked sharp. I was wondering though what all the blue hoses were under your hood?

Screwdriver, the effective gearing is 3.5% off. So, at the wheels it would feel like about 7hp loss, plus the larger, heavier tire has more inertia for a little more loss.

I cannot give very good comments on the power loss as I only drove 3 days on the stock tires and the motor isn't broken in either. However, my wife and towed some quads to some trails this weekend and so far, this truck does not feel as powerful as our 99 Supercab. Like I said, still new and not broken in yet, but up to 900 miles now. Compared to our 99, this one is a Screw vs. Supercab so I expect about 300 pounds more, and the larger tires as well. Both have 3.73LS. But it did not hold its speed on some hills like the 99 did. Many times I unlocked the torque converter, but tried not to downshift to 3rd to keep the revs down. The old truck had some ***** around town, IMHO, and this one not so much. I have a feeling mods will be required before long.

Neither tire is noisy. Like Gearhead said, you can hear them with the windows down on the highway, but they are not loud.

Well I got the BFG's.

Put on the All terrain's and I like them tons. They are stiffer but that was part of what I wanted so the truck will handle better and I am not disappointed so far. I've put 200 miles on them and enjoyed every one. I didn't realize how bad the Goodyears were after 50k compared to these tires. I put on the stock 17 inch size and they look great and no loss of gear ratio. All in all I'm very happy. But there had to be a fly in the ointment as the guy putting on the tires at the Ken Towery store comes in and says that I've got a bad "loose" ball joint and that he could have the parts midweek at 400$. You know, he didn't want anything to "happen" to those new tires. I quite frankly didn't believe him but will have it checked when I take it to the dealer next week for some tranny servicing. If he is wrong then his manger will get an earful plus some. Dig the new rubber though.

and now for the mandatory request - PICTURES! I'd love to see the BFGs on your Screw...contemplating the same two tires, seeing as how I have 40k on my stock shoes.

I'll try and get to that.

I do have a digital camera but that is as far as my knowledge goes about posting a picture.

Thought I'd share a couple pics of my brand new BFG KO's 285/75/16. No modifications of any kind to get them to fit. No rubbing so far - I haven't had it offroad with the new tires yet. Very slight loss of power. I just notice it's kicks down from OD a little more often on hills than before.

you WILL NOT be sorry if you go with the Bridgstone. I have never, ever heard a complaint on them.

Screwdriver,

I'm not sure how but I missed your post of about 3 weeks ago, sorry I didn't respond. Thanks for the positive comments. The "blue hoses" are nothing more than colored wire looms. I think I must miss the old Ford Blue under the hood. I realize these aren't everyone's taste and I really don't consider myself one to go for what a lot of people consider rice but I just like the look. Glad you like your new tires.
