Question What would be better for me, Polished or Chrome?

OK, I am looking into getting some after market rims for my 4x4 and I have my eyes set on some Eagle 118 in a 16x8. Now my Question is, what type of finish should I get for my wheels, the Chrome or the Polished. I live in Wyoming and I will proly use these wheels only in the summer time! Then go back to stock wheels in the winters (Plan to have a set of tires for winter and summer). Which finish will be less of a hassle to take care of but still hold up to the daily diver life style! to stop beating around the bush, Polished or Chorme what would you go with!

Thanks

I've got the polished Eagle Alloys and they look great in the summer. I'm like you, I change back to stockers for the winter. The salt on the roads here tears up the polished rims. During the summer I have to polish them about once every 2 months, which doesn't bother me too much. I let the salt hit mine last winter and spent an entire day polishing them. I'm seriously considering getting them chromed when I get new tires just so I don't have to change them for the winter. Hope this helps.

So Chrome would be better for year round summer and winter weathers. and polished would most definantly cloud in the winter! seen that happen! I guess it would be price and such becasue no matter what, I would think there is going to some sort of maintanance! thanks,

Chrome will be the easier finish to maintain. Soap and water clean up. Polished requires frequent cleaning and laborious polishing. Chrome is more expensive but usually looks better than polished.

Another vote for Chrome...it is a little more costly to begin with, But the labor you will save yourself is well worth the extra money!

I like polished look better than chrome. I know chrome is easier to clean ,but the polished look's better IMO. Polished is also much more forgiving than chrome. One good scratch or gouge in chrome and your done. The element's will get underneath the plating and there is no stopping it. With the polished you can pretty much work it out. Just my .02

I went through the same descision about two months ago. I was deciding between the Eagle 118s polished or chromed. I decided that I am just not willing to spend that much time on upkeep for polished. Also, I saw a set of rims that were chromed and was just dazzeled by the brilliance in the sunlight. So the fact that they cost almost twice as much as the polished proves the point that you get what you pay for.

Cool Wheels

bigNAnative, I've had both on my truck and all I can tell you is that it's a real hassle polishing 5 wheels every month or so, but they look great when done. They take abouta half hour per wheel and then I put a coat of wax on them to help the shine last longer. My other wheels were American Racing Outlaw IIs with a clear coat type finish and they were great and easy to keep shining. Hope this helps.

OK, I hate to go against the grain but I'm voting for polished, where I'm at here in California the chrome rims only last a few years before they start to peel and rust, then they look real bad, the polished with a little elbow grease will look like new ten years from now. Like I said, against the grain :-)

JohnHunt, There's no doubt that they look great polished, and like you said, it just takes a little bit of good ol elbow grease!!

Johnhunt where in Northern california are you that chrome rims are rusting and peeling in a year and what brand of wheel are you talking about. If a wheel is peeling it's chrome after only a year then it was a bad chrome job and has nothing to do with living in Northern calif. I live in northern calif as well and have never had any chrome rim rust or peel and I am going back as far as the 70's and 80's when I first starting using chrome wheels. The main thing wirth any type of wheel is proper maintenace and care if you keep them clean and don't let them just accumulate dirt and oil then they will last. I had polished rims on my truck for the last 5 years and have recently went back to chrome for a few reason one is I got Tired of having to polish my whjeels and the main reason is I got tired of My Centerline wheels breaking so I finally went with another brand. Chrome tends to peel off its product due to bad prep and bad chroming.
