Post Brakes Front Pads

What kind of mileage did you get on yours before having to change them????. I have 26,500 and need to replace them. Is there any special tools needed to do it, this is a first on my 97. thanks!!!!!

Brake pad wear depends solely on driving style. The harder you brake, the less mileage you'll get.

I do drive it hard at times, mostly dirt roads but 26,500 miles, I do need to get out more

Thanks, I drive a stick and wonder if this affects the brakes wearing faster???

I would believe that a 5sp would have your brake pads and shoes last longer. I'm at 70k km, about 45k miles, and have 10 mm on the front right now, which would suggest that i'm good for another 30k kms or 18k miles easy.

I had a caliper hang up and replaced the pads at around 30k. I bought the cheap lifetime pads from AutoZone and replaced them again at 42k. Besides wearing out they have alot of dust. I thought they are easy to do. About an hour to do both sides. Any recommendations on better pads?
BTW, I do some hunting in southern NY. How far are you from Alma?

I got 64,000 on mine. See sig for specs. I also have no ABS, for some reason it doesnt work and I like it not working more than I like having it so I am not getting it fixed.

buckdropper,
No special tools needed (that I am aware of), unless you want to count the rubber mallet I used to tap off the rotors--I had to buy one of those; didn't have one laying around anywhere,LOL. Changed mine @93K, and original pads were about 3/4 worn out.

bohunter,
I too used those Albany pads from Auto Zone. No real problems, besides fast wear(12K and pads almost worn out), dust and every now and then, slight brake fade. Replaced @ about 110K with Bendix TitainuMetallics. GREAT PADS. Little dust, better stopping power, lifetime warr. Paid $40.28+ tax. A bit expensive, but worth it!!

Pat Dantzler: Thanks to you and to all for your help on the brake issue. I will do them and let all know what kind of job it was.
