Post Loud new brakes

Well guys took new calipers, pads and rotors to the Ford dealer. Talked them into putting the stuff on for $40.00. Didn't hear a sound until later in the evening. Now I have a loud clunking sound coming from the passenger front tire. Apply brakes clunking noise stops. Any idea before I go back to ford and give them a piece of my small mind. Loud noise at slow speeds don't hear it as much at higher speeds. Also had new caliper slides or rails or whatever you call them installed. Calipers and rails from Auto Zone and pads and rotors from O'Reilly all stuff lifetime warranty. Should I be worried about clunking noise brakes appear to be braking good.

If pads aren't burned in properly after a brake job then pads can make a clunk type noise. This problem is more common it seems with aftermarket pads. I am a strong believer in factory parts. But if you had the work done at a dealer or shop, then I would bring it back and have it looked at. But they might find it to be the aftermarket pads. good luck.

Fordfixer,
Why do all the aftermarket pads seem to give off a black powdery residue, especially on the front wheels? This brake dust is not common on the OEM brakes, only when you have them changed to non OEM. I have had three vehicles with this problem and see it on a lot of others, all makes. Guess I'll go to factory pads next time. Does it have something to do with metallic pads?

Here's a super stupid thing to check (but it happened to me). Check that the lug nuts are torqued on. I picked up my truck after a Brake inspection and drove it for about 1 hour, it started to "Clunk" just as I touched the brake and then progressed to more frequent clunk without touching the brakes. I drove it back to the dealer, where it was discovered the lugs were loosening! I suppose the tech forgot to torque them on and so it was only finger tight. I had them remove the rims and I inspected the lug studs and holes. In the end, they bought me a new rim!

The aftermarket makes so many different types of pads it' s hard to tell. Ford is even offering a organic type pad. the pads are being sold under the motorcraft name. I have put several sets of these on customers cars and haven't had a problem. But I can stress enough about factory service parts. That is all my truck gets.

I have also noticed that the aftermarket pads seem give off more of the powdery residue than the OEM...but the OEM are not immune either.

I have had great results with aftermarket pads (on our cars).

I think the factory pads are around $20.00 more than the average aftermarket.
