to pgh_medic: no worries to your comment, I can accept it at times when I know I'm asking an ignorant question, and deserve a bashing for it. It's all fun!

to everyone else: thanks for the education on SVT's. I have been reluctant to spy under my friend's hood and just took his word for it when he made the claim of having an SVT.

but now I know the REAL truth thanks to all of you guys!

thanks!

his truck is sweet though, its got the upgraded alloys I think, that you don't see much around of. its also got the honey comb grille, power seats, power everything for that matter and is a beautiful black. but guess what? I'm sure I'll be able to run with him once I get chipped......and then he'll be wondering why my 4.2L can give his "SVT" (and I quote) a run for his money

ALOHA

V8KILLAH1, don't go bragging too much to this guy. If he has an actual SVT F150, Lightning, he can dog your 4.2, chipped or not. He'll dog my (aftermarket) supercharged 4.6 too. I wish I could hang with the Lightnings but it takes more money and know-how than I've got right now. I'm not saying that you won't give him a "run for the money", just that the Lightning is the top dog of the F150's when it comes to speed. It's all fun though, and I think all of the F150's are great looking trucks!

01 XLT Sport, thanks. Actually my truck hasn't looked that good since that picture was taken. It runs a lot stronger than it did then, the mods came after that pic. It's starting to show it's age though. I think of it as a sleeper. People say to me, damn, that trucks got some nut, doesn't it. No, it's not a Lightning but it's a blast to drive all the same.

I could be wrong but I'm nearly positive the STX was only available on a regular cab. I know the 99 and up models have the 'Sports' on the extended cabs, but I've never once seen an extended cab STX. They were offered on both the flareside and styleside though.

hey wittom:

I know I may seem like an idiot for asking the original question, but take my word....I ain't that frickin' dumb. I definately know a frickin' Lightning when I see it. No, my friend's one ain't lowered, No, he ain't got the Lightning rims, No he ain't got the ground effects kit, No, he didn;t have a factory side exit exhaust before the rear wheel, and NO, he doesn't have the frickin' Lightning emblems!!! Geesh, do I seem that dumb to our F150's?!

Look, all I 'm saying, if people want to pretend to be SVT, they deserve to get provin' wrong. And if its my V6 or someone elses that can do it, then I say: show them up!

Hey V8KILLAH1, I don't assume that anyone is dumb. I know that some know more than others. I guess I was under the impression that you weren't sure if this guy had a Lightning. There are a lot of people, even F150 owners, that don't know what a Lightning is. Your posts led me to believe that you didn't have a wealth of knowlege about the F150's. I'm just trying to pass along some things that I have learned. Sorry if you thought I was talking at you like you are dumb.

STX/98, there is a truck that looks exactly like mine, only an extended cab, running around this area. He might have just added the stickers, but I don't think so. I'm pretty sure others have seen them in the Xcab. I could be wrong. Ask my girl, she'll tell you I am "often" wrong!

hey wittom: my bad.....its all good!

I just thought you thought I was an idiot. Sometimes I am! But just to clear everything up, I know Lightnings from regular F150's for sure.
It was just that my friend had bought an F150 right after I got mine. Not only was it a V8 (I've got the V6), but it was fully loaded and beautifully black. Then he says its a "sports" model. All of a sudden I notice these SVT badges on it and I'm thinking to myself....is it really a SVT, is it supercharged then? I needed to know this so that it would determine if my V6 would be able to run with it. Of course I couldn't if it was supercharged, and definately not if it was a Lightning.

But now with everyones comment, I know that it must not be an SVT. Maybe just a regular 5.4, which I know with some good performance mods, I will be able to run with him. If it's a stock 4.6, oh well, see ya!

Last of all: the "sport" edition, ddoes it have anything to do with the engine? Or is it all mostly cosmetics?

Sport edition was mostly cosmetic.

How do you plan on making your 4.2 "run with" a 5.4 and beat a 4.6?

Hey Norm:

scenario: 4.6 stock vs my 4.2 with just exhaust and intake, I'd get him. If the 4.6 got exhaust and intake, then I'd step up with a chip. seeee yaaaaa!

now 5.4's are a little harder, but I think with more bolt ons like electric fans, pullies, 3.90 gears, definately a chip, NOS, etc...it would be a good run.

what do you think?

I can answer that. Yes it is basically all cosmetics. I have an 01 Sport. It is a 4.2 5-speed. It does have the honeycomb grill standard, 17" alum wheels, flareside, cruise control, leather wrapped steering wheel, 60/40 sport seats with the arm rest in the middle (thats not just for sports). It does have sway bars but I don't know if that is just because it is a sport, so I don't know that it has a better suspension because it's a sport or not. I think the 17' alum wheels set it apart from the other F150 flaresides. So basically if you had a reg. flareside and put 17" alum or steel wheels on it and slapped a "sport" sticker on it and it had the honeycomb grill no one would know the difference.

So the short answer is the "sport" has nothing to do with performance. But I love it anyway

Oh, forgot to mention mine has the basic tow package, the 4-pin trailer light connection in the back and the 3.55L/S rear-end. I don't know if that is standard on "sport" or not. But having the limited slip means two nice black marks....

I think you are dreaming, but that is not a bad thing. Do you have a stick? That would help you against a stock 4.6 but not as much as you think. Against a 5.4 you will need more than simple bolt ons.

Hey Norm, thanks for the encouragement!

It's non-believers like you(actually you show somewhat some support, thanks) that make me work more OT to save money to invest in my V8 killer !

Okay, so maybe 5.4's will give me a good run, but I think 4.6's are slightly easier. Unless the 4.6 is suped up heavily. But like I said, a stock 4.6 gives me no worries brother

And yes I, I do have a stick

Just because is says SVT does not mean it is an SVT . An idiot with $20.00 can buy a SVT logo ( I did ) Ok im an idiot or commonly know as ID/Ten . My 97 looks like a SVT from the from and back , but its a 3 door extra-cab , and we all know there are no SVT extra cabs . but the tailgate proudly shows a SVT badge .
However ,it does make other F1fiddy owners take a double look .
Sure , I would love to have a Lightning , but with a wife , child and 3 dogs , the Lightning lacks the needed room
