Question rough idle phone call!!!

I was sitting here at work and decided to check my vm at home. I had a message from an engineer at Ford. He said he was in their noise/vibration department. I am assuming that he is calling because I had a very rough idle and have heard strange noises from my new toy. I took it to a local dealer and they found nothing wrong. I will update you when I hear back from him. I thought this was pretty interesting. Maybe I can talk him into helping with my radiator !

Well.. I finally spoke to the engineer last night. I am not sure where he got info that I had tranny thunk, but he knew and that is what he was calling about. He was informative about other problems I brought up such as rough idle etc. He and maybe some other Ford engineers are actually coming to my house to look at my truck. They are going to decide what needs to be done and make arangements with my dealer to get it fixed. I am not sure what I did to deserve this, but I am not going to complain. I will let you know what happens after they are here next week. Has anyone else experienced this?

Red face

L-Rod,

That thought actually crossed my mind when I was writing my last reply. I am going to be very careful. The guy did call from a MI number and seemed ok. He is supposed to email me and I will just see if it is from a Ford email system or not. I think it is legit, but it seems weird none the less. I have never heard of anything like this before.

Besides after I explained problems to him for 30 minutes I think he would be stupid if he still wanted to steal my truck !

LOL - good point! Why not call your dealer & ask if he's ever heard about Ford doing this? If not, then tell this guy you'll meet him AT THE DEALERSHIP! If he's legit he should say fine. If he's not that will be your first clue. Also, you may want to call Ford in MI & ask them about this. It does sound strange to me too. Have you tried calling that # or looking it up online?
There are sites w/reverse # lookups - you type the # in & it tells you (usually) who it belongs to. I think you can try www.whois.com. See if that helps.
Good luck - keep us posted![/b]

CL,

Thanks for the advice. I couldn't get any reverse searches to work for wither business or residential listings on several sites. I actually called him since I have been at work when he has tried to call me. He told me to hang up and that he would call me back so I wouldn't have to pay long distance. That is a good sign. He was also typing when I was answering questions. I was a little cautious, but you people are starting to worry me. I am a nice guy.... that is until you mess with my truck!!

Well ktztoy, I don't blame you 1 bit. I would definitely call the dealer & Ford Customer Service to check this out. It could very well be legit & if it is it may restore our faith in FOMOCO a bit. It would show they are serious about making things right for the guys with problems.
I hope it is legit & that you get any problems resolved to your satisfaction. Best of luck to you!

I'm not surprised that an engineer would try to find a problem so they can solve it. Here at school my friends and i always try to fix stuff, but if it costs money the school or business doesnt want to fix the problem.

broken,

His name is Alex Patnutas (sp?). He said he was an engineer in noise and vibration. I would really appreciate if you would double check. Thanks.

MechE,

I know how engineers are. I was going to be a bio med engineer. I love seeing how things work. I had just never heard of Ford or any other company doing this before.

billy,

As for the JWs I just pretend I am mormon (I think all the women make them think it is true ) and have a dog named Satan. That seems to keep them away !
