Hi Nukeboot

Your master mechanic sounds like an idiot..
I have installed a K/N fipk on my truck, it has been to the dealer for warranty work and
they had no problem with it being on the truck, and it`s c.a.r.b certified.
As for the exhaust, i installed an after market Y pipe and a 40 series flow master
muffler. With these three mods i have picked
up about 25 horsepower.
The bottom line is, do what you want to your truck. You will be very happy with the results.

Now before any body flames me replace the stock Y pipe on your 97 to 01 F150 and you
will see how restrictive and crapy it is.

Have a good day.

Larry.

With all due respect to you Nukeboot, it sounds to me like your mechanic got stuck in the 70's technology. Everyone knows how restrictive the OEM air box and exhaust systems are (can you say EPA??), and everyone knows that the more air you let in (and out) the more gas the engine burns thus the more power you get. Any way, if you want to worship your 70's mechanic, fine with all of us. You might want to get "a second opinion".

Nukeboot - for the best bang for the buck, I would say change your gears to 4.10 (or does the mechanic think that's a bad idea, too).

This seems downright silly to me. When the mechanic told you this, the first thought that should have come into your head is "then how come the truck with the mods goes faster than the one without?" That is an obvious observation that anyone could make. I mean really, why does Neals truck go faster than the rest of ours? just got lucky? no, he has more mods than us. seems simple to me.

Tell your mechanic that there are no doubt a large number of people with modified trucks willing to race his stock truck. Of course, they might want him to put one of his Cobras up as the purse.

Get a new mechanic. Anybody that owns a factory high performance car and questions why someone else would do it themselves must be stuck in the stone age. If modifications don't work, he has wasted a lot of money on the Cobra option on all those Mustangs.

Speeder, what type of aftermarket Y-pipe did you get. I already have the Borla but might look into the Y-pipe if its worthwhile. Thanks

HI!... KING JAMES : My GOODYEARS were pretty much gone already, that's why I did the burnout. It's kind of a tradition with me when my tires get ready to be switched to new ones. Actually I have the new ones on rims in the back of my truck in the video but you can't see them.

Hey Drifter

After i had my 40 series flow master installed i noticed a slight loss in bottom
end power. About a month later i got the new
Y pipe and had it installed. I was amazed at
the power i had picked up, not only was the
bottom end loss gone but i also picked up power in the midrange as well.
I got it from jegs, they call it a Y collector the part # 389-Y250300A it cost37.99. Summit has them also for about the
same price.
If you do this mod look at the stock Y pipe
after they cut it off your truck, I bet you
just stand there shaking your head.

Hope this helps.

Larry.

The late model engines do not respond as well to simple bolt on's as earlier engines do. That said the 4.6L's most restrictive part is the head. So big gains are hard to find without changing the head or Forced Induction/nitrous. I have a number of bolt on mods on my truck and they did help, just not a lot. I really expected more for my 1000 dollars. I used a G-Tech to document my mods and the addl power. I picked up 0.2 to 0.3 seconds in 0-60 and the 1/4. That equates to 10 HP.

Hi Cujet

With the mods you have you should have gained
at least 35 h.p more than stock at least.
If you want more power read what i posted
above about changing the Y pipe, I got more
power and better gas mileage after doing this
part number for Y pipe listed in post above
this one.
hope this helps you out.

Larry.

Thanks for your replies, everyone!

I picked up a few flames along the way
(as I thought I would), but it was worth it to gather different opinions. I think I'll save my money for now. $100 per horsepower sounds rich for my blood (I'm Scottish,
you see). I think I'll save my money for
real power mods - like a big 5" tip for my exhaust pipe and a big wing for the top of the cab! :^D

My truck was delivered yesterday and I pick it up tonight. Let the fun begin!!!

Nuke,

I agree with everyone who says to make the mods. Plain and simple...they are well worth it!! I worked a bit out of order...if I had to do it again, power first, cosmetics last.

1. Superchip
2. FIPK
3. Exhaust
4. Headers
5. 4.10 Gears
5. Torque Converter

Anything after that is gravy!!
