Post are these trucks worth anything????

I went to trade my truck off on a lightning - a new lighning here in Canada is $42,650. they told me they would give me $20,000 for mine, which is a 99 5.4 reg cab flareside 4x4 offroad, tow package, rear slider, 6disc changer, basically as loaded as an xlt can get, my window sticker when new was $37650 and I have about 45,000k and warrenty to 120,000k so I pretty much laughed at that. This just makes me wonder what kind of resale value these trucks have when in two years you will only get about half as much as a person pays for it.

First two years do hit the hardest but, they were still too low.

Kelly Blue Book rates your truck at
$23,700 Trade-in
$31,700 Used Retail

(That's Canadian Dollars, I used 1.5 exchange)

Thanks, I figured that $25,000 would be a decent deal as I would get an ok amount and they could still make some money too, but they are greedy on the L's too as they would not budge on the sticker price (and they have 6), basically I was hoping for $15,000 difference, maybe I am dreaming though??

If I were you, I would take the black book price in to the dealership and shove it in their face. Or say to hell with it and not get a Lightning at all. But personally, I think you should either do something about it or forget about it.

Black f150 offroad;

Unfortunatly that is what a dealer will do is go as low as they possibly can. They would give you 20,000 for yours and sell it for 28 to 31,000 depending on the condition. If you want to get the most out of it try selling it outright yourself, you will be money ahead if you do....

On the same note I tried to trade in 2 Mercedes cars a 300E and a 190E at the same time for a Toyota Avalon. They wanted to give me 1500 dollars! Book value was 10 times that. The fact that the dealer can look you in the face and give you nothing for a trade (or 2) and then charge you full list price for the new vehicle is amazing.

If you are not in a hurry, try to sell it on your own.

Similar thing here, i have a 99 same thing but 4.6 5sp. The Alberta black book on it is 23045$ but was recently offered 19500 for it.

While black book is a good start on what the used vehicle is worth, dealers use a publication from the Auction that tells them what certain units with similar options and km's are going for.

Black f150 offroad send me an email, i work with ford credit and i'll shoot you a few more pointers.

If your truck looks and runs good, I think you'll do better selling it yourself than trading it. Dealers make money on both the car taken in trade and the car they are selling. That's why the gap between wholesale and retail price of used cars is so large. Chances are you also can cut a better deal on the new truck without a trade in.
Since your truck is under extended warranty which is transferable, there is less risk for a buyer buying from you than buying a truck from a dealer offering a 6 or 12 month dealership warranty.

I know what you mean after 18 months of ownership my truck is worth about 13,500 the sticker was 22,500. The thing that makes me sick is if I bought myself another Mustang GT instead of this truck the sticker would be close to what the sticker on the truck was would be worth around 15,000 with the same amount of miles on it. As my truck as I almost have 31,000 on it. I guess because there are alot more trucks out there they don't hold vaule as much as a car.

It's a given that you take a big hit when you trade in a car on a new one. You can always do better if you sell it yourself. The trade off is that when you sell it yourself, it's more complicated. It's way more convenient to trade in than sell it yourself, but then you gotta pay for that convenience.

I've had it up to here (pointing to my eye brows) with selling stuff privately. Especially my old computers. They think you owe them tech support. With anything, if something goes wrong, they call you at all hours and if you block their calls, they just start pounding on your door.

In my case, freedom from complications far outweighs the extra money I can make selling a vehicle on my own.

These days, I donate my old computer equipment to schools and other non-profit organizations. I even donated an old laser printer, in perfect working condition, to the local police department and got a nice letter from the Police Chief himself. The best part is, you get to say how much the donated item was worth and you get to take it off your taxes!

Dennis:

Are you on here trying to make yourself look good or are you on here to help out someone with a problem? I think you have your web sites mixed up. I think you want some donation web site because I don't think anyone on here cares to here about the good deeds you have done. Sure, it makes you a good person and I'm sure many people appreciate it, but this is about Ford's not donations. Thanks for the advice though.

SexInAFord -my brother use to live in Spruce Grove. Oh, and Dennis did bring up some good points.

black f-150 offroad -I had the same situation as you did last year. Only got my truck appraised at $20,000, and I still owed $19,000 on it! I just laughed. The Lightning calculated out to be $870/month for a 5 year term. Atleast I got a test drive out of the deal.

sexInAFord~ I don't think Dennis was bragging. Dennis just brought up some good points of wheeling and dealing.

black f150, I am with webfoot and Dennis, sell the ride yourself and get what your truck is really worth. I am strongly against trading in a vehicle because of how greedy the dealers are. The only time I would trade a vehicle in is when I need to dump do to problems. What I would do is look around at what the car lots are selling a ride like yours at. Then slightly under sell them. With the cold cash, you can use that to your advantage negotiating with the dealer. ~And to top it off, you can also have fun giving them a hard time for once.
