I recently started using the Quaker State Ultra Synthetic. I am a sworn convert from Mobil 1. why you might ask? Well I ran a few stupid little tests and quaker state just made more sense.
For example, if you stick both in the freezer for a few days then shake them up a little, while both are pretty good about not freezing solid, the mobil 1 was a bit more "sludgy" then the quaker state. Also, when pouring the oil in through the same filter, the mobil 1 drained in much slower, like it was too thick, despite them both being 5w30. I waited about 5,000-6,000 miles between oil changes and found the quaker state oil to be in better shape when I drained it then the Mobil. They are priced similarly, so I'll stick with Quaker state. By the way, I still use the Mobil 1 filter because its by far the best I've found.

I still havent fiquired out why people associate oil burning problems with the oil they are using. You can use virtually any oil you want and its not going to effect the oil usage in your vehicle. Oil is used up or burned by leaks or bad seals. These have nothing to do with the type of oil you use. Its like blaming kids violence on the tv. Its not the root of the problem at all! I have a really hard time beleiving the newer sports cars that come OEM with synthetic are having valve seat problems. If the valves are not seating properly its going to be from misuse of the vehicle during break in or an engineering issue. It wont have anything to do with the fact they use synthetic oil.

Jeffrandol,

Where do you plan to mount your dual remote??

I am look at some locations right now. So far I'm going to put it in the lower grill area. I like that place because I can use the bigger filters

I am not 100% sure yet. I need to get after it and go have it installed. I was told by the guy who I will have install my kit that the best place for it on my truck is back on the frame rails past the engine compartment near the tranny so it is protected by the skid plates.

If you check out www.noria.com/boards/lab.cfm someone from LE has posted the oil results for wear and oxydation same as Oilman did here late last year. He goes by the same first name (Kevin). However the numbers for Mobil1 and Motorcraft are different. On F150online Mobil1 is pass 12 and 509 Motorcraft is fail and 207. On the above mentioned oil analisis board Mobil1 fail and 180 and Motorcraft fail and 144. If you check out the board read the "which synthetic is best".

Question

Hi Indy!

In your post below, you mentioned that after analysis, you will never use K&N ever again. I was about to purchase one, do you know of any reason why I shouldn't?

Up until I read your post, the general consensus out there was that it is better than stock. I suppose that after the analysis, you found that it isn't?

Maybe it allows for better airflow, but also has a lesser filtering effect of the crap it's supposed to catch?

Please let me know, I'd appreciate it if you could e- me directly. harry@canada.com

Thanks in advance!

Harry / VanGuy

mpocrats, I am using LE oil (8530 = 5w30w)in one of my vehicles. After the first analysis I did it showed that 8530 will not work for extended drain intervals. Everything else was perfect. I had a K&N air filter installed and after the analysis came back, I will NEVER use K&N again. After I use up all the 8530 I will most likely switch to LE 10w30, which is extended drain oil. But during the winter months I will have to switch back to 5w30.
Good luck with your choice oil and give a bit of advice. Do an oil analysis on any oil that you plan on doing extended drains on.

Service department told me that since Ford recommends 5w20, that's what they use and that is what I should use, even in Florida. No variations. Seems a little harsh. I agree it's hard to believe that 5W30 would cause problems but they may be machine these guys to tighter tolerances now due to the PS issue etc. and the need for 5W20 may be more than just fuel economy etc. I also would not switch to synthetic untill I had at the very least 5k miles on and probably 10k. I know Vettes come with synthetic right off the bat but I also know I've read where there are a lot of Vettes sucking down oil like crazy and need new rings. 10k miles on dino oil isn't going to hurt anything and it will ensure that the rings have had a chance to bed in. I'm hoping by the time I get 10k on my new one, Mobil will have 5w20 out in their Mobil 1 product.

When you get it installed you think you could post some pictures?? What oil are you going to use with it?
