Question Windsor and Romeo, what is the diff. besides...?

Just for my knowledge, Does anyone know if there are any differences between the Windsor plant engines and the Romeo plant engines? besides valve cover bolt configurations.

One difference I seem to remember is that the Windsor engines are the only ones susceptible to piston slap. Lots if info if you search...

I remember reading this and I think this is the the difference.
The Windsor engines are generally built for heavy duty use. The rods, bearings and oil pump are all heavy duty and the piston pins are full floating (rather then pressed in for the Romeo engine). They are used most often in the F-150 where the Romeo engines are used most often in the Mustangs.

If I remember correctly the cam setup and the tools need to work on the 4.6 Windsor is different from the Romeo. Check out a Haynes repair manual, it states somewhere in the engine section.

The Romeo has a fixed piston pin and a smaller connecting rod. The Windsors have floating piston pins. The Romeo uses different style cam bearing caps that have 1 exrta bolt.
Eight bollts on the flywheel for Windsor and 6 bolts on the Romeo.
The Windsor main caps have dowels and cross mounted main cap bolts. The Romeo has no dowels and uses side mounted main bearing cap jack screws. The timing chain guides are different.
