Question Any Piston Slap in 2001 5.4l engines?

There is a lot of history with Piston Slap in the 5.4l engine documented on this site, most in 97-99 engines. It was reported that it was fixed in the 2000 engine but that is refuted by the experiences of several 2000 owners.

I have not heard in any of these posts of any 2001 5.4l owner experiencing Piston Slap. Please reply as to whether or not you have experienced it and how many miles you have on your 5.4l.

This info is important to us prospective Ford Truck buyers. Thanks in adavance...

Took my 2000 today to the garage because my engine developed that all to familiar sound on cold startup and it was confirmed my engine built 1/7/00 has a confirmed case of Piston Slap. I just bought the truck end of January 2001. Its was a new 2000 leftover with 150 miles on it and now it has 3,000 miles on it with an engine that needs replaced. Appears the problem is not fixed and Ford is well aware that there still may be problems according to the head mechanic where I got my truck serviced today.

I own a 2001 Ford pickup with the 5.4L engine in it. There is no more knock to it. See I owned a 2000 Ford pickup with the 5.4L engine in it , and that engine always had a knock to it in the morning and sometimes running during the day. I noticed that between 2000 and 2001, the 2000 required
5W-30 and now the 2001 requires 5W-20. I had talked with ford engineers of the 5.4 and they said that the bearings inside are so tight that the oil wasn't getting to the bottom fast enough so they dropped the volocity of the oil. Now the thinner oil works much better and they said with that change the engine life of the 5.4L should be longer.

Mileage: 824

Mine is a bit noisy ( but no knocking ) on cold startup, but I'm sure this is normal. Right?
My '99 was a slapper, so I know "that sound" all too well.

My SCrew slaps every morning. I started about 500 miles. Lasts about 2 minutes. The problem still exists in the 2001.

PSlappinSCrew - When did you order it/take posession of it? Was it an early 2001 or did you just get it?

Talking

Mine does it too, it doesn't do it very often though. Anyone I talk to says who cares though, makes a little noise but not a big deal. Puchased it May 2000 and have put 20,000 on it.
