Radiator & Tow Package
I ordered the tow package on my 2001 F150, this clearly states that it includes the HD Cooling with the tow package. From what I have read the HD Cooling for 2001 is a 1.42" thick single core. My truck had the 1.02" single core. My friend has the same truck but MY 1998, his has the two row radiator. This two row is MUCH MUCH larger than either single row. I checked with the dealer, they state the 1998 is the last year for the two row, but even if it is, my truck has the 1.02" which is not what is stated for the tow package. Ford has ripped me off, and probably alot of you have the 1.02" and don't realize it. The correct would be the 1.42". Regardless, I tow a LOT and purchased this truck to tow my race trailer on the weekends. I spent the $250 at the dealer and installed the 1998 two row radiator in my truck. I hated to do it, but I can't wait a few months for Ford to figure out they got caught, mean while I am sitting on the side of the Baker Grade with a torched engine.

This is an issue for the 2000s as well. I am currently dealing with it myself. I got an e-mail from some others about it, and checked mine. Sure enough. Wrong one. Waiting for dealer response.

Do you have the 1.42 inch radiator? Mine is only 1.02" and so were several others that I looked at. What is the part number on yours? I have called Ford and my dealer and they say that the one I have is correct. I just brought home a 29' trailer and don't want any problems in the summer.

The correct radiator for the tow package is the 1.42" unit. I have the tow package but only had the 1.02" unit. The dealer I purchased the truck from was going to run around in a circle trying to figure this out. I have a 28' enclosed race trailer that I will be pulling, so I didn't want to take chances on getting the correct cooling unit, I work with Ford (a supplier) so I got a deal on purchasing the 2 row radiator. The 2 row radiator, 1998 MY F150. The cost is $250 (at least in Los Angeles), the part number is F752-8005-FA. If you have the 1.02" radiator and intend to tow a 29' trailer, you better have your AAA card with you. If you see the 2 row radiator, It is MUCH larger than even a 1.42" would be. Hope this helps. I just wish Ford would give us the radiator we are supposed to have.

I went to my dealer yesterday. They told me that the 5.4L has the smaller radiator and the 4.6L has the larger one...regardless of towing package. He was their so-called "Truck Specialist" service advisor. So basically, I am going to another dealer to get another opinion.
Why do I feel like some ZIPPER HEAD got this big idea that he could save Ford some money by placing cheaper parts into the products?
Customer pays for something he/she does not get!
Sounds like what Exxon did! Ford will make so much money from the interest on YOUR money that by the time a SMALL percentage of the people complain and get replacements, Ford makes BILLIONS using your money!

If you look at Fords own web site under HD electrical/cooling it states that you get and upgraded radiator. The 1.02" is the standard radiator. http://www.fordvehicles.com/trucks/f-150/specs/#group3
I also have the towing group and have a 1.02" radiator. I'm going to call the dealer today.

Me too! I have the ESP. Maybe what I should do is wait awhile and when time for an antifreeze flush then pursue it! Brother works for the dealer and I'm sure I can log a complaint, then go back later. If not, I'll see if I can get them to fix it now.
I agree with Rand....! That little thin radiator, though large in outside measurements, is pretty wimpy it appears. They save maybe 10 or 20 dollars (or more) in raw part cost, and multiply that by the # of V8's and get a good chuckle at the annual board meeting in Dearborn.

I have the 98 MY two row radiator in my truck now. WOW WOW!!!! It is much much larger than the little wimpy 1 row 1.02".
Even though Ford switched over to using the 1.42" radiator in the HD cooling/tow package, they still screwed me (and probably lot of others), because my truck had the tow package and a 1.02" radiator.

I just looked up the specs on the Ford site listed by jstang--the 5.4 is 1.02 with the standard engine, but 1.42 with the SC (supercharged or supercooled?) engine. Or am I just reading it wrong?

Guys,
For what it's worth I ordered my '99 with "Heavy Duty Electrical and Cooling" ($210 option)without the towing package and received the dual core radiator (big sucker!). I am not aware of any changes regarding this for 2000 or 2001.
