Radiator & Tow Package
SC means --supercooling which is supposed to include an upgraded radiator that is 1.42 in thick on 99----2001 f-150 with either v-8.Ford has installed radiators that are standard thickness 1.02 on many of these trucks. Everyone with tow pkg. should check and see what they have and demand replacements if it is not 1.42 in thick

There may have been confusion, as they do offer a 1.02 upgrade. It has more cooling fins per inch(16.50 VS 13), however it appears that this is only for SC (super cooling) on the 4.2 and the standard radiator on the 5.4. My dealer told me that the specs in the ordering book (what ever the heck that is)say that the 1.02" with more cooling fins is the correct one(way after the fact), but I have not seen anything. My owners manual listed a 2 core, the website and source book says 1.42" and the ordering spec book says 1.02".....BS! After meeting with a Ford field engineer and a call to the factory, they still can't come up with a firm answer. I now have the 1.42" installed The way I see it Ford and the dealers will show you the source book(2000 & 2001), it plainly states what radiator you should have, if this is a wrong, Oh.. and the owners manual is wrong too? whos fault is that? And why no correction for the 2001 source book and manuals? This issue is a loser for Ford, in a civil lawsuit the winner is desided by who has more evidence to back their side. You have several sources listing either a 2 core or a 1.42" for the HD cooling package, I have yet to see anything that states otherwise. What will Ford produce for evidence?, the ordering spec's? Did anyone get to see this before your purchase? I didn't!. still haven't. and If it says what they say, (1.02") why didn't they show me?,and why did they replace the radiator?.

Well I checked my 2000 f150sc 5.4 with trailer towing group, class III.
"Wrong Radiator"
I wonder how many people did Ford stick it to! Owner's Guide clearly states "two core" radiator!
I will be in my dealership Monday morning!

Looked at mine again, Now that I have this info It looks like Ford will be installing a 1.42" in this SCREW . I will also check my battery and alternator . I compared mine with a friends "Expy" with the tow package and mine is puny by comparision!

The 2001 Source book has a link to the 2000 Source book. http://fordtraining.com/ Click on the 2000 Source book. Go to page 47 in Acrobat for cooling specs. The 2000 with the super cooling is suppose to have a 2.2" two row radiator. It appears that they have down graded it to 1.42" for 2001.
I am still waiting on my dealership, they are talking to the district manager.

Silver Sport Thanks for the information about the 2000 specs. My dealer was trying to say that the HD radiator only comes with the HD/cool HD/elect package and is not part of the tow pkg. Looks like this proves for certain that I have the wrong radiator. Not only does the source book say 2.2" thick- two core radiator but it also says on page #9 the supercooling is included in the tow pkg. Back to the dealer tomorrow. Hope this doesn't end up in court. We have to keep each other up to date on this.

My God!
After three hours at the dealership where I bought my truck, I do belevie I'm getting the runaround.
Took numbers YL3Z-8005-GA off my radiator, called Ford engineers they said that is the correct radiator for my truck! I asked them about the 1.42 inch radiator and they gave me the lame excuse of that is a smaller radiator. Even when I tried to show them the spec sheet off the Ford site, would not belive me! So I guess this will be a hell of a fight between me and dealer!
Good luck to everybody!

mjd5.4, You have 2000 therefore you should have the 2.2" 2 row radiator. See my previous posting.
I'm still waiting on an answer from the district manager. So far the dealer has been very cooperative. It's a large dealer so they want some answers as badly as I do. I think he checked his inventory and found a problem.
If need be we can use a more eye catching topic to generate more interest. I'm sure that there are many more people with the problem that have not responded. If enough people call them on it, they'll have to do something.

Before you get all fired up, I looked at a 2000 source book at the dealer(along with the 2001) and both spec a 1.42" for a 8 cyl with HD cooling. I did not see any mention of a 2 core in the book, although the owners manual lists it(in both 2000 and 2001 manuals)and we found a 2001 on the lot with one(2 core),when the part number on the rad was looked up it came back as a single core.
In fact both of these books were identical in the specs, I have them photocopied and will scan the pages if anyone wants a copy.I belive a 1.42"(VS 1.02") is the proper one.

It,s very frustrating when you go with the all this information to the dealer and they give you the run around. I checked my younger brother 97 F150 XL SC 4.2 he has the exact same radiator on his truck!
My older brother has a 97 F150 XLT SC 4.6 towing group 111 has large two core radiator!
I did make a appointment with district rep. after all that wind blowing up my A##!
BTW they would not even let me compare radiators on the new trucks on the lot with mine!

mjd5.4, the part number you list is what they put in my truck(YL3Z-8005-GA), I looked at it before it was installed and still in the box with the part number on it, it is most definitly a 1.42" unit.Unless Fords supplier is marking some of them wrong.

OOPS!
Sorry, jstang
In my blind fit of rage I put wrong letter in part number. I meant to type YL3H-8005-GA.
If YL3Z-8005-GA is the 1.42 inch radiator, I will go to my dealer with that part#. Since he says he can't find the larger radiator!
I had printed out what you typed on this thread and brought with me to dealer on ny first visit.
MJD5.4
the numbers YL3H-8005-GA and YL3Z-8005-GA are for the same part. One of the numbers is a part number and the other is an engineering number. The "H" specifies engineering number and the "Z" specifies part number, but either number will get the same result through cross-referencing.
And yes, this is the Heavy Duty radiator number that SHOULD have come with the Class III Towing Group. I am getting a new one put in by the dealer.
Essentially to get all this information I called the parts counter in search of a replacement radiator. The guy listed two in the system for the 2001 F-150 Supercrew,
XL3H-8005-DA and YL3H-8005-GA, however there were no descriptions in the system other than that. The parts guy called the parts catalog assistance line and called me back. It turns out that I have the standard one, an XL3H-8005-DA. The YL3H-8005-GA is described as the one to be installed for extra cooling needs/Heavy Duty.

There seems to be some confusion on which radiator goes in the 2000 model 1.42" or 2.2". JSTANG said the 2000 source book he saw at the dealer said 1.42". The 2000 source book online says 2.2".
My guess is that it should have the 1.42" and when Ford updated the build sheets when they changed from the 2.2" to the 1.42" they keyed in the wrong part#. That would make sense from a time stand point.
My dealer called yesterday. He told me he is still waiting to hear from the disctict manger. He said the district manager has been busy visiting area dealers. When he called the dealers he was visiting to talk to the district manager they said he was out on the lot. I wonder what he was looking at on the dealer lots???
