Re: mpg
Initially I was getting 13mpg and then it started to go up and down. It seems to have settled after the first 2000 miles and am now averaging without any modifications 15.7 mpg city and close to 18 mpg highway.I had my first oil change and stuck to the recommended 5W20 until the synthetic 5W20 is on the market, which by the way should be shortly.
2001 Supercrew Gen III,Triton 5.4L, Lariat 4x2,monochrome highland green, all factory options.
Installed: A.R.E. lid, bug deflector, WeatherTech deflectors
Mods coming: Exhaust (Borla),K & N filter

Well I just drove to spring training and back and I had the cruise control on at 92 and I was able to get 17.2 on my truck, and then on my next fillup through city and highway driving I got 16 which is exceptional considering I do mostly highway. After reprogramming my truck, it really seems to be running nice. I guess maybe the altitude or the way you drive it would be why some of you fellas are getting a lot worse milegage.

the winter blend fuel in Mass really hurt the gas millage. On my old f150 I got 17 mpg in the summer and 12-13 in the winter. That is all highway millage

My '99 Tahoe 4X4 with the 5.7 got roughly 10mpg when I was towing my 5,000lbs. cycle trailer. Can't wait to see what I get with this new set up. Still on my first tank of gas for over 3 months now --- so I'm doing GREAT!!!

My mileage actually improved after the Superchip and new exhaust. Ok, to be truthful, it actually got a LOT worse for two tanks after the Superchip but I don't think that had anything to do with the truck or the chip

My average MPG stock was 12.8 (mostly highway). After the chip (and minus the anomoly which occured from a very heavy foot), my MPG went up to 13.1. Now with a new muffler, I am averaging 13.9.

Well I don't feel so bad now. After 4,000 miles, average 12.8 mpg city/16.5 mpg hwy at 70 mph. Not sure if we are using re-formulated winter fuel up in my area or not.

Mobil 1 did not affect mileage. Aftermarket upgrades did not affect mileage. Get used to it. I do know that if you are using larger than stock tires, and the speedo has been re-calibrated, your mileage will still suffer.

I'm getting a consistent 14.5 city driving. I am a pretty conservative driver, so that helps, but I only have 2K miles on the truck. This is 87 octane with Colorado winter blend fuel, averaging over 6,000 feet in elevation, so I can't complain.
I got almost 18 across the divide a couple of weeks ago, probably averaging over 8500 feet in elevation (Boulder to Durango).

Thanks much everyone, and especially Don C - that makes me feel somewhat better. How much longer will they be using the winter blend?

I had a '99 XLT 4x4 5.4L before getting a '00 Suburban LT 4x4 5.3L. The Suburban does get better gas mileage. The best I could ever get out of the Ford was about 15-16 while I've gotten a little over 17 on a trip in the Burb pulling a trailer with motorcycles to Laguna Seca.

My current truck has only 150 miles and is still on that first tank. I'm a little concerned about just having a 25 gal. capacity on this truck. My previous trucks, '97 and '99 Reg. cabs, had 30 gal. tanks and I think they were barely adequate.

My '99 Lariat 4x4, 5.4, 3.55, reg. cab, long bed, pulled my 20' bass boat 1100 miles - to the Stick Marsh and back from Maryland ( for you bass fisherman amongst us ) with an average of about 12 mpg. This was at 70 to 75 mph. Not too bad considering I only got an average of 13 or so when not towing.

I did notice that my mileage dropped into the mid 11 range when I pulled the Superchip before selling the '99.

I get 14.5 and if i tried i could stretch that to 15.5. I've never heard of 11, not even 12 coming from a stock truck.

My truck just turned 7,000 miles. In beginning I was lucky to pull off 12mpg.
I kept getting this mpg until about 5000 miles.Only mod I did was to lower back 2 inches. Now I get 14.7 avg. I drive all the time on the highway with cruise set at 72.
