Question Remote Oil Filter Discontinued???

I have question for all of you with 4x4's:

Was the remote oil filter for the 4x4 trucks discontinued after the first few years?

I friend of mine has a 97 XL 4x4 WITH the remote oil filter in front of the left tire, but my 2000 4x4 ORP does NOT have the remote filter. I looked in the 2000 Source Book (from fordtraining.com), but I didn't see anything listed there.

It's a MAJOR pain to get the filter off the engine directly.

My mom's 99 Navigator has the filter in front of the tire and it's a breeze to change the oil. Usually I have to jack the vehicle up just to get to the damn filter. Sucks that they did away with it.

My 99 Expedition has the filter on the engine.

A friend of mine who is an insurance adjuster says the insurance companies were raising hell with Ford because a minor accident could pop the filter causing a siezed motor.

They were dropped. Millions in FORD's pockets too. I'd rather not have it. Yea it would be alot easier, but I don't like the idea of the engine oil be held by two rubber hoses and their connections. I've read on this board about failures of the hoses.

I really have good luck with mine, but it has to be done with my left hand. I use a cap style wrench with a rachet to loosen it and for the final snug. I do always cut the back of my hand on what I think is the top of the shock mounts Have to start wearing gloves.

I have a 2000 4x4 ORP. I also use a cap wrench on the filter. A little awkward snaking the hand up there, but no big problem.

So many mods, so little cash! On the up side, no wife to create a filibuster.

Cool

Once you get the socket on the filter, if you have enough extensions, you can get to the socket from the wheel well. I've found this easier than trying to do it from under the truck.

discountinued in mid to later part of 99, early 99's had them still, nice way to change oil. If the reason why they change it was because of insurace comapanies they should just tell people to learn how to drive as we all suffer enought from these people already
