New truck, have an issue, could someone assist.

Hi all, im new here to f150online.com, what a nice site this is. Anyway, i picked up a new 02 4x4 with the 4.6 motor a couple of days ago. Ive been noticing a roar/vibration noise coming from the motor around 1800-2000 rpm under any load situation,(ie accellerating, downshifting) I feel a little vibration in the steering wheel when the noise occurs, but its mostly just a loud noise.

I was thinking the fan clutch , but not sure. I just in park and rev it up to 1800rpm and its not loud at all.. does this take away the fan clutch theory? Could it be something in the driveline. torque converter in transmisson, its only got 300 miles..

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Chris

I say it is the TC hitting stall speed sounds about the right RPM for that.

hmustang, thanks for the reply. i dont think its the TC to be honset.. i can take off from a stop and as soon as the motor gets to 1800 rpm it starts getting loud...tranny shifts..back to around 1800 again more noise...etc..its kinda hard to describe

It sounds to me like it could be the fan clutch functioning properly. It will musually make a roaring noise at about that rpm.

Sorry I didn't read your whole post. It looks like you already thought of that.

Could the exhaust system roar/vibrate at a certain rpm range? If i take off real fast from a stop light i can feel/ hear it when the tranny shifts and it goes thru the 1800-2000 rpm range.

If the exhaust is rubbing something, couldnt i hear/feel it sitting in park reving the motor thru that range..i dont feel anything in park.. kinda stumped.. maybe i should call the dealer..

The fan clutch should only be sucking a lot of air (making noise) usually for less than a minute when you start it up from cold.
