Question Warranties (Lincoln vs. Ford)

I was reading Motor Trend's web page articles and stumbled across the Lincoln Navigator write-up. Did you all know that it comes with a 4yr/50,000 mile warranty as opposed to the Ford 3yr/36,000 mile warranty. Why is this? Price? Aren't they virtually the same? Or does my 2000 F-150 have the 4yr/50,000 ??? Wouldn't that be nice?

I know for a fact that at least from 1998, Lincoln's warranty was a year longer than Ford.

Not only is the Navigator's warranty longer than the Expi, but you are also guaranteed a loaner.

Angry

Also, the Expedition and Navigator have more HP and TORQUE than we do. How did they manage that? It's basically the same 5.4L engine isn't it?

The F-350 PSD that I'm planning on ordering has a 5YR/50K warranty.

I think that is yes on the Navigator but, no on the Expedition. As the Expedition is still a Ford. The Navigator has the DOHC 5.4L.

Although with the same manufacturer, it's safe to assume the issue is that Lincoln is the luxury line vehicle and with that comes a much more luxurious MSRP. You may PAY more however you GET more to make it seem more attractive and exclusive.

Comments?

Well, there has to be some substance to justify the higher price. Lincoln could not exist on just plastic trim, a little chrome. The difference between Lincoln and Ford isn't the same as say, Dodge - Plymouth.

Raoul,
so the Navigator has the same block as the F-150 but a 32 valve head? Seems odd to build a head just for the Navigator. Ford should offer it as an option on the F-150. I think it's good for an additional 40HP and a bunch of Torque.
I guess as a retro-fit, it'd probably be a PITA and very expensive.

Cool

Like Raoul said, they aren't just a Ford w/ chrome. Lincolns get better parts. It's as simple as that. I saw in a post by Factory Tech they use the best balanced main shafts they have in the Lincoln trannies. It's the same "part" but it's closer to spec than what goes into a Ford.

GAH: It's exclusive. They don't want Lincoln owners paying 50k for their truck to get smoked by a 25K F150 stripper w/the same engine. Just because it's exclusive now doesn't mean it always will be. Look at the SVT Cobra. Mark VIII engine. I wouldn't be suprised to see these engines show up in the L's on down the road. By then they will have something better for the Lincoln's anyways.
