Question Synthetic oil

I know that this has been talked about before around here, but it has been a long time and I have a oil change coming up real soon. I’m thinking of switching from Valvoline Durablend 5w30 oil to 5w30 Mobil 1 or Valvoline Synpower. My truck has 68500 miles on it. I was wondering if I would be asking for trouble switching with this many miles. I have heard several stories about leaks and using oil. I drive only 1.5 miles to work and I'm worried that these short trips are breaking down my oil. I have started taking a longer way to work so that the truck will warm up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Sierra

Cool

Hi Sierra,

For what it's worth to you, I changed to Mobil 1 at 90,000 and had no problems at all. I was on Castrol Syntec before that, and changed to Mobil I when I learned from a thread on this board proving that Syntec IS NOT a true synthetic!

A great truck.

I have always heard that if you switch from organic to synthetic, or vice versa, it will cause the head gaskets to shrink and leak oil.

Question

Does the fact that I currently use the Valvoline Durablen synthetic blend benefit me in anyway when switching to full synthetic? The blend does have a certain percentage of synthetic properties from the full synthetic oil. Currently it does not leak or use any of the blend oil.

ruger_dfw, the oil you are using is WAY too heavy for your truck. Unless you do a lot of heavy towing, your truck will run better on Amsoil series 2000 0W30 synthetic. It's hotter than hell here in the summer & my truck runs superbly, 108,000 miles & doesn't burn a drop.....Mark
