Angry Detonation Follow-up

Well the dealer had my truck for the past 5 days and said it doesn't ping anymore. I asked what he did and he told me he reprogrammed the fuel parameters to 8.7 and cleaned the EGR valve and checked the hoses.
I drove home...No Pinging .. Out of curiosity I checked to see if the Fuel Bar was in place...GONE... I asked the dealer where it was and he said they must of forgot to put it back on. I told them to put it back on. On the way home the PINGING was back!
It's time to have a serious talk with the service guys and get the Rep involved. Will keep you posted.

so why are u so worried about the shorting bar being removed, the 99's and later dont even have them. All it does is drop timing a couple of degrees, it does not effect advance or anything like that ( its not a spout connector ), its actully quite common to remove the bar, otherwise u can go into the pcm and reprogram the octane adjust internally with a ngs, by the way the oil imprgnated filter can effect your fuel trims if u over oil

Black,
Doesn't removing the fuel bar affect your power and fuel milage? Doesn't it remove the PCM's ability to control ignition timing functions?

Did your service department reprogramm the pcm, there is a tsb on this concern wich calls for a pcm reprograming, 97-98 cant remember it may only cover 5.4 though, but the wds only takes about 10 min to reprogramm the pcm if there is an updated calibration

o by the way ladder29 i dont know what he was talking about the 8.7, when u reprogram it does it automatically , if he was talking about the fuel trim was at 8.7% after reprogramming that is a bit high, he should chek maf voltage

I called the service manager today (12/2) but he was off . The person I talked to said the manager talked to Ford yesterday about my situation. He didn't know what they said but the manager will call me Monday to give me a full report. I will keep you posted of the outcome. Thanks for the input / advice from all of you.

Thank you to all who have keep this topic open. I have the same problem with pinging etc. The dealers answer was only to remove the shorting bar and send me home. The pinging is less now but I wish it was gone for good. Power seems to be down a little also. Lets keep this thread alive untill someone, Ford, has a solution.

ok what i do is clean the maf, run combution chamber cleaner throught the engine and somtime remove the octane bar (97-98 equipped only), ford has combustion chamber clean that u suck throught the intake, used to use it a lot on probes, the reason i sometimes remove the bar is depending on wheter the vehicle is city driven , if so more carbon built up as it gennerally never gets fully warmed up and that the concern may reoccure and if it does ford will take what i was payed to fix it in the first place away so basically i am covering my butt
