Question Engine Swap ?

I have a friend that works for Ford Racing and he really wants to build me this engine. He wants to bore out a 289 to make it a 5.8 l, or about a 351. I was very intrigued when the price he quoted me on was only about $1400. I wanted to know, If I upgraded just to like a 4.6 or the Triton 5.4, what kind of prices would I be looking at. Also, what other replacements would I have to do to make it all work? (Tranny, drivetrain, suspension, etc.)

Boring a 289 all the way out to 351 sounds too far.
A 4.6L would probably be the easiest, don't know on the costs. A few items come to mind: Engine wiring harness, computer, stiffer front springs, would need all the accesory mounts from a 4.6, exhaust system, new radiator? motor mounts? There's probably more...

DO NOT bore out a 289. They are already bored out enough, .030 at the most, anything more little make the cylinder walls very very thin. I dont know from personal experience, but I think I read it in the Ford Racing 2000 catalog. Has alot of neat stuff about all of there engines.

have you seen anybody on this board install a v-6 in place of a v-8 in a 97 or newer truck? there is a reason for that. time, money and the fact that there a plenty of v-8 trucks either for sale new or used in all price ranges. check out the v-6 seaction, there are some things you can do to your v-6 to get better performace.
