Engine Oil
Slickford,
Careful of what you purchase from Amsoil. There 2000 and 3000 series is not certified or licenced by the API (American Petroleum Institute). Check out this web site.
http://www.api.org/cgi-bin/eolcs_li.cgi?n=Amsoil
You can also check out any other oils you want to there, like the Lubrication Engineers oil mentioned in the thread also. Mobil-1 will be there to.
If an oil is not licenced or approved by the API then the oil company that makes the product is saying they are good for your engine. The problem with this is this is like the fox garding the hen house. The tests that an oil company has to pass cost about $250,000.00 per oil. The licencing only costs $875.00. If they have really tested their oil and spent the $250,000, then why did they NOT spend the $875 for licencing???????
Sincerely, Kevin

Hey guys...very confused about this Amsoil/Mobil oil weight issue.
5W30 OR 0W30 ???????
I have 8000KM on my SuperCrew and will be changing over to a synthetic next oil change. My manual says to use 5w30 in my motor,I have been using Pennzoil 5W30 since new and changing every 3,500KM along with the Ford oil filter...I have had excellent results with this Pennzoil oil but really looking hard at changing over to a synthetic because of all the positive comments on this board.
Stay With The Old? Go With What new?
HELP!

Thanks Oil Man.
If I did get amsoil, it would only be the 5W30. I just got my oil changed, so I have more time to debate. I have used Mobil 1 in the past almost exclusively, and I will probably stick with it.
Also thanks to Msparks for the heads up on amsoil. I will keep the info you gave me, I might get some amsoil in the future...

Well guys...as I had stated in the above reply, Pennzoil has been my engine oil for years and has never done me wrong as far as I can tell. Being a driver that does not put a whole lot of miles on in a year I think I will be going to the Pennzoil "Synthetic Blend" semi synthetic oil next change.
The Pennzoil synthetic blend oil offers engine protection performance approaching that of the pure synthetic oils, but at a reduced price. This oil is designed for motorists like me who do a lot of short-trip driving, frequent stopping and starting of the engine.
Is anyone using this semi synthetic oil by Pennzoil ??

I'm using 3 quarts of regular Mobil oil and 3 quarts of Mobil 1 at 30K. I didn't want to buy the semi's because those could barely have any synthetic oil in them. How do I know they are less than 50% synthetic? Making your own semi-synthetic is about the same price for a little more piece of mind.
If I had my own oil changing bay that made it easier, I would buy the oil that is on sale for $1.00/qt and clear the shelves, buy the best filter out there, and change it every 1500 miles.

Mobil-1 synthetic for me
