Thumbs up

Supposedly the 20 hp boost is to begin with the first 2001 off the assembly line.

The 2001 F-150 brochures are starting to come out. I picked one up and it says for the 4.6L V8:

4.6L Triton V8 *
9.0:1
Sequential EFI
220 @ 4,500 rpm
290 @ 3,250 rpm

* 2000 ratings shown. 2001 ratings not available at time of publication.

Jackal,

Since you've picked up your truck have you been able to verify the upgrade to 240hp in the 4.6l? Can anyone verify which 4.6's are getting the extra 20 ponies?

Just curious - mine's being built next week and I sure would like the hp upgrade.

They put a sheet of sand paper under the driver seat upholstery so you'll feel a 20hp increase 'in the seat of your pants'.

According to a tech at the local dealership, Ford did some tweaking with the air induction system. Maybe he knew what he was talking about - maybe not...

Exclamation

I wanted to bring back this topic because it occured to me that the old sae net HP rating of 220 was based on 4500 RPM. There are a number of sources stating the new sae net HP at 240 but at an RPM yet to be determined! Could we be looking at a possible marketing ploy here? WHEN the RPM rating comes out if it is anything other than 4500, we have been mislead.

Check the specs on a 4.6L Expedition. That vehicle has had the 240hp 4.6L since 1999. The changes are similar to what they did to the 5.4L that year to get from 235hp to 260, new intake manifold, heads with slightly larger valves, new camss, freer-flowing exhaust manifolds, and a new ECU program.
