Greetings!

I can "lay rubber" all day long in my rig folks... can't see why others with similar mods should not be able to do the same!!

My .02 cents!!

Everyone has their own opinions but I've driven the old 300 6cyl for 5yrs now and no complaints.... I've also been behind the wheel of the new 4.2's and..... well it's not the old workhorse 300 but it's fine for us granny drivers... :-)

Damn, you would be jealous at how I can turn my wheels on DRY asphalt!!! What helps out A LOT on burnouts is a standard trans I think. That's the only I stuck with a V6, because none of the V8s came with a manual trans.

I don't care about laying rubber on the asphalt. That's not what I bought my truck for and I can't afford to buy new tires every six months anyway but I'm not impressed by the 5.4L engine either. There is a small slope on the road where I drive every day and my truck can't make it up in OD. If I can get it in OD by letting the gas pedal back then it starts slowing down and if I want to accelerate then it shifts back again.
I would have expected better performance from this engine. My chicken$h!t Toyota pickup made it up the same slope in 5th gear and it even accelerated a bit.
Maybe a Superchip would help but I'm in the process of finding out if it voids the warranty.

Cool

I had a 97 F-150 then traded it for a 99 GMC Sierra 5.3L. The GMC was the worst truck in quality I have ever drove. I traded it a year later for my current 2000 Ford F-150 5.4L. The GMC was also weak on pulling power. If you think the Ford 5.4L wont pull a hill in OD then try the new GM's they can't pull them self's hardly in OD on flat ground. Ford builds by far the best in quality trucks and for a stock V8 it pulls better than the GM's. I will not buy another GM product.

new5.4:
Can we ask which rear end ratio you have in your truck? It looks like that the problem that the origional poster of this thread experienced was that he had the 3.08 rear end ratio.

I always thought that the ideal to get a 4x4 so you could get more trackion. With that said my 5.4 will burn the tires off if I let it, and thats with no mods

I have the 3.55 LS rear end ratio.
The automatic transmission might contribute to my problem too. I wanted to get stick but it didn't come with the 5.4L engine. I've driven vehicles with manual transmissions all my life and I just can't get used to the auto trans. Oh well, I'm still better off than with a Chevy or a Dodge. I also considered the Toyota Tundra but I didn't want to buy a first year model.

new5.4: Hmm, I would have thought you could light those tires up anytime you wanted.. The 3.55 is a good ratio that most folks have..

I'm like you and much prefer a manual tranny which was just another reason for me to go with the F250 SD..

New5.4,
On the road in front of my house I can spin both tires for about 100 feet and man do they squall. That's a 5.4, auto, 3.55LS with just over 5k. Someone on here said if you drive it like an old lady you will get old lady performance. Oh, did I mention I live on a dirt road? On pavement it won't even chirp 'em Maybe it's time to reset the computer?

Just yesterday I stopped on the side of the road to let an ambulance go by and started of fairly slow when the Silverado behind me thought he would be cute and try to pass me, well I’m not usually one to be bothered by people doing that but there was a lot of traffic coming from the other direction, long story short at a 25mph roll I let her down shift into 1st and it laid about 10ft of rubber. From a rolling drive I think that’s pretty good. My 98 Dodge Quad 360 would have never done that.

enok, porter, whatever...The modifieds have the same stroke and bore as the cleveland and windsors. The modified has a big block bolt pattern, the windsor and clevelands have small. They are considered big blocks, although in real life they probably are just small blocks. They have real coolant and oil passage problems...

power: You are probably right, I don't even know what the 302 or the 4.6L weighs. although aluminum is lighter.
