pinging when at a stop or cruising 30mph

I recently about 1000 miles ago had a catback system installed using a Prochamber straight through muffler. When at a stop light or cruising at lower speeds I hear a pinging noise coming from my muffler should I be concerned?

HOLY OLD THREADS, BATMAN! Just kidding. if the noise was not audible before you put the new exhaust on, then there may be a fitment problem( rubbing somewhere) causing a noise, or maybe the joint where the two systems meet are of differing materials, causing a joint seal and resonance problem. if it is a noise like marbles in a frying pan, maybe a baffle has broke loose( if there are no baffles, then maybe a peice of steel has come loose inside the muff) hope it helps.

Hi!!

There was a TSB that had something to do with this awhile back. The heatshield around your Cat's was the culprit, but if I recall the noise was more prevelant at idle while in drive with the brakes applied.

Hope this helps ( :

P.S. I have more pics I took when I fixed this problem myself if interested - I'll post the one from the TSB.

My Grand Cherokee still does it at 105k miles, I don't even notice it anymore. But my truck with only 91k is about as noise-free as you could ask for. No rattles, pops, clicks, nothing.

Since we're resurrecting old threads, I might as well add my $0.05 (inflation )

My 2000 F150 4x2 (actually, it's a company truck; belonging to the big blue Q, like me ) makes the old "bacon frying" noises from about mid-May through early October. That's A/C condensate dripping on the y-pipe - I figure the pipe will last longer than the 4.6/tranny with the loads and speeds to which I subject them.

My DD '02 S'crew 5.4 4x4, on the other hand, has a bunch of tinny "crinkles" during the cooler months. Heat shields on the cats; which will probably start rotting off the first (if ever) time I decide to go run the beaches along El Golfo de California. Haven't done that in at least 25 years; so I'm thinking that I'm safe.

So put me down for one of each common noisemaker. Personally, I don't worry about either noise.
