Post Hi 5.4 initial start idle

Does anyone out there on this excellent site have any comment about the starting revs immediately after the 5.4 engine catches? My 2000 instantly revs to around 1600 to 1900 rpm (hot or cold although SOMETIMES not as fast hot)and then comes back down slowly like it is supposed to. My concern is that in cold weather especially booting the engine up that fast may not be the best thing, although I imagine it does build oil pressure faster. My thinking is that a slightly slower uprev would be preferred. I've heard other 5.4's start and they seem about the same. From the outside the engine doesn't appear too goosed, but you can really hear the exhaust beat inside the cab. Just curious.
(I have not found how to set my profile yet, but I've a 2000 Lariat 5.4, 3:55, ext cab.---stock for now except for Century mid-high cap and FORD contoured running boards and bug deflector).
Thanks in advance.

Everything is perfectly normal. They all do this.

Even the 99's do it. I make it a habit to crank first, then put on the seatbelt, then adjust the tilt. By that time everything is back down to normal.

Yup, mine too. I asked my usually right-on-the-money service writer about this once, he said Ford intentionally programs the computer to do this so the spec 5W30 oil gets up to the top of the engine faster after sitting at the bottom of the crankcase. Raoul is right. It gives me a little time to buckle-up and maybe make a slight boxer-trou adjustment before I make the jump to hyperspace.

The profile and signature info is right at the top of the thread. Just click on the word 'profile' and follow along.

4.6 does it too. Guess we all have to live with it.

Wow, Thanks, all, for the comforting responses. And so quick, too (I'm not really too Internet-literate yet but I think this just conviced me how nifty it is for things like this)!
Like you, Reavis and Dustoff, I switched to Mobil 1 after 2nd oil change (I changed at 1600 and then at 28oo before putting it in at around 4000. Is there an aftermarket thingy to make the filter removal a bit less messy on a truck with the filter in the standard location? It's a bit hard to get to for a truck, but that doesn't bother me so much as the oil going kind of all over the front differential. Just wondering. Oh, I figured out the signature thing, Reavis, thanks.
