Red face Where was my 5.4 made.

I have a piston slap problem on my 250sd and the dealer said that my engine was not made at the Winsor plant so it would not be replaced. Is there anyway I can tell where it was made. He mentioned that it was position 8 on the VIN. My in L what does it mean.
Thanks for the help
Steve

I think the eighth position being 'L' means that the motor is a 5.4, not where it was made. The 4.6 does have two codes representing where they were built. I thought all 5.4's were built in Windsor. There should be a sticker on the engine stating where it was built.

(Unless the dealer scrapped it off while you weren't looking.)

I have the Helm shop manual and it says the L in the eighth position means 5.4L, SOHC, EFI, V8, Gas. It does not say where it is made. I saw an earlier post on piston slap and I THINK someone said all 5.4 were made at the Windsor plant. Do a search on piston slap and see if that is right. Bill

I have read the in F150online that the only plant that made the 5.4 was the Windsor plant also.
I hope I can find a way to prove this to my dealer.
