How To Safely Clean Engine?
Ok I have my first car show for my truck on Monday and I need to clean my engine because it's never been cleaned
So I bought a nice little Engine Detailing Kit it has a spray can of Degreaser and a Spray can of Silicone based armor all stuff that you just spray on to make it shine.
So what i plan to do is warm the motor up about 1-2mins then shut the truck off. Then cover my FIPK Airfilter with a plastic (Wal-Mart type) bag and then cover my Distributor cap with a plastic bag as well. Then spray the degreaser all over the engine and let it sit a minute or two then hose it off with light pressure (no nozzle on end of hose).
Then start it up and let it dry off then spray on the silcone detail spray.
I was wondering if there is anything I need to avoid getting wet besides my Dist cap and the airfilter? Also have any of you guys ever had any problems after cleaning your engines? I am scared of messing somthing up

Your fuse box could be another and the alternator. I had fun in the mud a couple of times and found the engine compartment to be filled with mud. I didn't even bother covering anything up, I took out the spray hose and carfully sprayed the engine, the hood, fenders and firewall. I used a brush and soap to clean the engine and parts. Then I sprayed everything again. I know this sounds harsh but I was very carefull and it still runs fine.
That detail kit sounds cool, what kind is it? And I'd like to get more info about that silicone covering?

I got the engine detail kit at Advance Auto Parts for $6.99. It looks like it should be pretty nice
I don't know if the detailing spray is silicone based or not but by the things it says on the can it probably is. It says that it kind of bakes a "resin cotaing" onto the engine to protect it and keep it shining as well.
The kit is made by a company called CD-2.
It's called, "Shop Series Engine Detailer" it comes in a box with two spray cans one is grey the other black.
I'll let you guys know how it turns out.
