5.4L Gas Mileage
My range varies from 10 - 14 MPG. 10 is lots of short trips, and 14 is on the hwy. Mine is a 97 5.4 Ext. cab short bed w/ 3.55 gears. My foot tends to be heavy, though.

I found something else thats pretty interesting look it up at www.fitchfuelcatalyst.com .It gives charts on milage improvments and horsepoweer gains goes in fuel line on trucks and cars and drops into tank on smaller engines like dirt bikes.
I've tracked my mileage since the Truck was new last October. I routinely get between 14.5 and 15.5 Mpg.The majority of the miles are highway at 70-80 Mph. I noticed no significant increase with adding a tonneau cover or a cat-back exhaust.

I've been getting right at 14 MPG City and 18-18.5 highway (stock). I will have to break in my superchip now and see if I have any improvement in the MPG department.

I put a copper bracelet on mine. It doesn't help the gas mileage but it "feels" better now.

Damn! Those fuel magnets actually work?!!! I mentioned it here on the post several months ago and I was laughed off. I think someone said I might as well slap on one of those little propellers on my hitch. No kidding?? 1.5mpg? At $13, really can't lose. I've been getting around 12-13 city, and 14-15 hwy. Got a Superchip with 92 octane every time. With premium at almost $2/gal around here, every 1.5mpg helps. Gotta get me a magnet. But, I'll save the copper for the later years.

I routinely get 17.5 - 18.0 MPG back & forth to work mostly freeway. I don't think my tonneau cover or Flowmaster 40 series exhaust have affected my gas mileage. Haven't made a trip yet in the F150, but my wife's V-8 Explorer got 19 - 20 MPG on a trip from Atlanta, GA to Texas and back.

Deanwa the actual name is a "FUEL MASTER" sorry about that. I looked it up in a harbor freight catalog you install it as close to the carborator, tbi or injectors as you can which on my 5.4 is on the fuel line on the frame rail under drivers seat. The ad says"strap to your fuel line to save gas and increase engine efficiency fuel master's magnetic field breaks up hydro-carbon for more complete burning.*11.6% average highway fuel savings as testedby a U.S. EPA accepted labratory *Prevents build up of dirt in engine injectors" $12.99 item 36098-1AFA from fall&winter catalog price may have went up a little 1-800-423-2567 ***More info from liphart&associates,INC EPA Acepted Testing Lab "after performing the HFET fuel economy per 40 cfr 600.113-88 EPA acceptedTest...we see a significant decrease in hydrocarbon ,carbon monoxide and oxides of nitrogen, and an 11.6% increase in fuel economy after installing the fuel saver on the test vehicle" I know It sounds to good to be true but for the price I had to try it and im not dissapointed. If any one buys it and isnt happy the magnets are really strong and would make great places to hang wrenches on.
I get around 12-15 after 1800 miles on my new 5.4. I drive as fast as I can and punch it at almost every light.
I'm a bit of an engineer by hobby. My understanding of the magnetic assist devices, when properly placed in precisely the right location before the fuel pump, is that they are actually able to attract U.S. mint coins right out of your pocket, regardless of their non-ferrous quality.
Now I have been wrong before and if you have them and truly believe they have improved your mileage by themselves, then I'll be happy to be wrong again.
But let me think out loud, Ford spends untold millions on R&D to get their cars and trucks to meet EPA requirements for MPG. GM/Dodge too. Better still Japanese engineering that pioneered fuel economy...None of 'em use this awesomely simple scheme.
If you have them and you like them, keep them. If you are considering buying...think about it.
Not trying to make you all mad. Just putting in my two non-magnetic cents.
have fun go fast and don't cry at the pump

I got 13.8 MPG on my first documentable tank in my new F-250 Super cab with the "new" (260HP) 5.4L with 3.73. Mixed driving, one trip to the mountains (1/4 tank), no towing and I am at 550 miles on the Odometer. I am pleased with that. I hope I can squeeze another MPG out of it as it breaks in. Oh for comparison it weighs 5420 pounds with full tank of gas. This is 200 pounds more than my previous F-150 Super cab, lariat 4X4, with the 4.6L and 3.55's that was getting 15 MPG in the same conditons.

5,420 lbs! That explains why my mileage is so good. Weighed my truck at the scales last week with a full tank. Without me, 4450 lbs.
I had been getting 17.4 in mixed driving till the weather got cold and it dropped nearly 1 mpg.
I got 14 mpg once on a trip, all highway, 60mph. I was towing my boat, about 3300lbs.

Fun -- that mileage you're getting is very abnormal unless you're towing a heavy load!
What kind of driving do you do? I drive maybe 5 or 10 miles a day in maybe 2 or 3 trips during the week. I don't think you can do much worse unless you're towing. I get around 12 mpg if I'm fairly conservative with my '99 SC 4x4 5.4L 3.55LS.

Steve Miley, I have the EPA reports. The Magnet things DO NOT WORK. Here is the conclusion from the document:
Fuel Line Devices (magnets). These are magnetic devices which are clamped to the outside of the fuel line or installed in the fuel line and claim to change the molecular structure of gasoline. (EPA has has evaluated: Super-Mag, Fuel Extender, Wickliff Polarizer (fuel line magnet/intake air magnet); Polarion X, Petro-mizer).
They put a * on products that did work, as you can see above none of them work.
There are lots of those "sucker" products out in the market today. Here are a few tips from the EPA:
Some gas saving products may damage a car's engine or cause substantial increases in exhaust emissions.
Be cautious about glowing testimonials by satisfied customers. Few consumers have the ability to test for precise changes in gas mileage.
Claims that the Federal government has approved any gas saving device are FALSE.
Sorry, sometimes truth can hurt. You said "and milage went up to a solid 16 in the warmer months." Thats great! but it is due to the warmer weather, not the magnet.
