Amsoil "Performance Gains"
Actually I have changed. I change all the time. Always trying to better myself. Have not we all changed since the 11th?
That was NOT a "jab." Just a one of the biggest reasons for me to go BACK to Toyota.
I really like Fords but they just dont build them very well. My grandfather has been buying F150's probably since they started making them. He drives them 4 years and then trades them in for a new one. Always the same color and style. EXCEPT his 2000 F150 he bought his first V6. While visiting him over Thanksgiving, I noticed his V6 sounded like a deisel engine. He had no idea due to poor hearing. Said the 'Service Engine" light kept coming on... I think he's probably ruined the engine by now. Probably too late for a fix. Thats Ford! and bad hearing...
Why did I need a NEW engine in my Expedition? Why did I have 4 rear wiper motors installed? Why did the front end come apart on me while driving? Why was the transmission starting to act strange when I changed the fluid religously AND used a good cooler? What the hell WAS THAT shudder thing?
Beats me!
Basically I'm not very happy with the outcome of the Expedition. AND the mileage was TERRIBLE! It was very disapointing to have to get rid of the vehicle. I really liked it. But I could NOT trust it!!!
Good luck with yours. I hope no one has the experience I did. Furthermore, I hope the Toyota Highlander turns out like my Honda CR-V... TOTALLY BULLET-PROOF AND 100% DEPENDABLE!

HIGLANDER BRAKES:

F150 LIGHTNING BRAKES:
AND VIPER:
"The Lightning's four-wheel disc brakes with ABS bring it from 60 mph to a standstill in 136 feet. The Viper requires 139 feet."

DOES THAT MEASURE UP TO YOUR STANDARDS???

Hey Rand,
What does not measure up to my standards is the amount that Toyota and honda has contributed to the relief fund in N.Y.
Not to mention BMW, Porsche, Audi, Subaru and several other Rice Farting vehicles.
It does not matter what brand of vehicle one gets, they all have lemons.

I don't think the braking distance is what was being referred to. The fact that they have to be replaced every 3 to 6 thousand miles due to problems with the rotors on the Tundras is the problem. And the problems with the rotors have even been worse on the Land Cruisers. Not to mention all the drive train vibration problems they've had on those. I think the bottom line is all vehicles have there flaws. No question about it though, Toyota makes a reliable truck.
Hope your Highlander's brakes are better!
I tend to agree, that all the mfg have quality problems, what I do believe is that due to history, the American car makers are now under much more quality scrutiny than the imports. Owners of American made vehicles are not afraid to mention that it is in the shop for an oil leak or other various problems...
I have found that many of the people I know with imports just don't mention problems... I have taken more of my friends to the Toyota dealer than I care to mention (not picking on Toyota, just many of my friends own them). Anything from blown head gasket on one of their small trucks (twice) to front driveshaft on a 2 wheel drive Previa (great design).
But to talk to any of them and Toyota is great, no problems.... Also, what's with the imports and the mandatory timing belt change at 60K???? That is not minor maintenance??? Is it?

For those of you that don't know Rand, he was an Expedtion owner who created controversy whenever he could. He would turn the most simplistic subjects into flame wars. His "I'm so much more intelligent than anyone else" grew very tiresome and most of us were glad to see him move on.
Rand,
This post started out talking about oil, then you posted that you was back for a little visit. Then you proceeded to tell us how much better your Toyota is than Ford. Norm asked you about your mileage and you not only told us your mileage, but you told us that if we were in a crash in our F150 we were dead. IMO it was posted as a jab and you intended that way!
STX/98 hit it square on the head about Toyota's brakes wearing rapidly and every vehicle having it's own problems. I will stick with my problem free Ford, thank you very much!

Get a life Lariat...
I agree, ALL mgr's and ALL models have there problems. My highlander is sooo new I have NO IDEA what kind of problems I might or might not have... Nuf said...
We have all been over this LE vs Amsoil vs Mobil 1 YEARS ago. There is NO END to this discussion. bottom line, THEIR ALL GOOD and if you change them at proper intervals your doing your engine a favor... Its like the Ford vs Chevy syndrome.
BTW: If your somehow attempting to imply that because I bought Toyota AND because Toyota has or has not contributed to any 11th funds then I did not contribute YOUR F'ING NUTS! I did contribute and am VERY pissed that I did because the families are not getting the money! I will probably never contribute again! It was a ploy to get money and MOST of it 99% is still sitting in the hands of the charities... Something will have to be done to govern and watch these charities before I give them any money... Better off walking downtown and handing it over yourself!

You want ot learn about oil DO A SEARCH on this site. Find info for YOURSELF on the web. Look for articles. Call experts in the business...Blah Blah Blah!!! I told you what the bottom line was... Do yourself a BIG favor and take that good advise. You spend a lot of time and end up right where I said. THEY'RE ALL GOOD!
Your going to take the opinions of people in threads?
BTW: "Junior Member" - Poeple here RARELY attempt to find OR share any REAL data... Oh, and when they do they forever get shunned... Good luck.
God forbid ANYONE attempts to question the authority of people like Lariat... And there are many like him!

I and NO ONE can feel any difference in performance due to oil... Not gonna hapen! However, I have felt a smoothing effect. The engine definately ran smoother and perhaps slightly more quiet.
2 HP or less would be hard to feel due to the amount of weight the engine has to push. Look at it from a power to weight ratio. A 10:1 ratio is good. Like a 3000# car with 300 HP has a 10 to 1 power to weight ratio. You now have a 3000# car with 302 HP. A ratio of 9.9337748 to 1 . Your going to feel .0662252 difference? Hell, you've burned enough fuel during start-up to make that kind of a difference... Hell, I could go into the house and take a crap and get that much difference in my ratio.... What about that dew that burned off??
You get my drift.
Unless you've got one sensitive ***, your not ever going to feel that kind of acceleration difference. And if you do have that much of a sensitive ***, you should spend more time on top of the washing machine during spin cycle!
