When I switched over to AMSOIL I did not notice a thing except fuel mileage increased from 17 to a whopping 17.2 mpg. If AMSOIL really inproved performance and drivability, what were you using in the engine before.............axle fluid??? ROTFLMAO when someone claims they can actually NOTICE a difference.

I have used Marvel Mystery Oil for years and finally, after seeing the inside of my engine, I have proof positive that it works to keep the engine clean. I know a lot of guys who will turn up their nose at this tip ... but that's their loss ... not mine or yours.

i personally have never heard of this stuff, but after reading your post i went out and bought 4 quarts of it. anyways, my brother thinks the stuff doesn't work, but i just spent 42k on my new '02 KR and i want to keep him for a long time. i won't be driving him on the salty roads of detroit. got a rice burner for that. anyways right now i am running the 5w20 motorcraft. i changed the oil at 500 then again at 1000 and i will soon be doing it again at 2000. at 4000 i will be switching over to the amsoil 5w20 synthetic and an amsoil oil filter or maybe the K&N. anyways my question is when should i start running the Marvel through my engine? right now i just drain the oil and then flush it with an extra quart.

thanks for any advice

BillV:

I have an idea you might be near me in age(62) as I too have used Marvel Mystery oil for ages. The 'younger' guys won't believe us.........maybe.

I don't use it as a 'flush' like you described(sounds like a good idea instead of the KW(?) eng. flush I normally use--in my older engines) but as an 'additive' when my oil level drops a 1/2 qt. or so. I also have put it in my fuel tank for years--no injecter or fuel pump problems in all these years.

Btw, I love the way it smells .

I do not know about the oil, but I Add the marvel to my gas on my bikes and everything else that burns fuel. My dirt bike is a honda xr which is a four stroke. It gets the crap beat out of it and it runs like a champ. I have added marvel to the gas since it was new, never smokes or burns oil. My neighbor has the same bike and his smokes, he does not use marvel and we use the same motor oil. I also use it in my boat, sits all winter and the carb stays free from gum and varnish. Went one year without it and after winter it had a reddish gel in the float bowls. I am sold on it and the best part is that its cheap and I can get it at walmart.
I switched my boat over to Mobil one on the first oil change, could not tell any difference in performance, but the oil pressure was better when the engine was hot and the engine ran a little cooler.

Thanks Sarah, Dan and Terry for your replys ...

You're correct Dan, I just hit 64. I don't mention that much because so many of the people are 20 to 25 on these posts.

Yep, I was around when Noah built the Ark. I helped him install the flat-head ford V8 in it.

You don't need to dilute your 6 quarts of 5W-30 oil with Marvel Mystery Oil all the time. It isn't necessary. But, just about a hundred miles before an oil change is the time to throw on a cheap filter and dump in a quart of Mavel Mystery Oil. It doesn't take but a hundred miles or two hundred for it to do its work.

Tip: Just be certain that the "Cheapie" filter you put on your engine is equipt with an Anti-Drainback Valve to prevent "dry engine starts". That's important too.

Jryager was right about changing your filter somewhere around the middle of a 6 month/12 month oil change with AMSOIL. He was right about the filter getting plugged up in a few months. Be sure to do that. Then, just before your oil change, throw on another "cheapie" to take the place of the quart of Marvel Oil. See, a lot of crap will come down and get caught in the "cheapie" filter. The rest will drop out with your oil if you get your engine good and warm first.

I put the Marvel Mystery Oil in my gas tank too about once or twice a year with a fill-up. I don't have any trouble with fuel injectors either. Ever. Love the stuff. And the way it smells too.

Happy Motoring!

Stay away from the additives, even the marvel mystry oil.

Amsoil doesn't recommend any additives, and neither do I.

Have not been on this site for a while. Sold the Expy (Fix Or Repair Daily) and bought a 02 Toyota Highlander! WOW! MUCH BETTER VEHICLE!

Anyway, I have been using Amsoil for about 2 years now. I noticed the engine ran smoother! I also noticed a HUGE difference when I put synthetics in the 2 differentials.

This friend and I would work on his Camaro Z28 LT1. We would add a modification, say tune it with the Hypertech Power Module. When we would drive the car, he felt NO DIFFERENCE, when I drove the car I felt a BIG difference. Funny thing was, the 1/4 mile times increased about 3/10ths of a second!

Why one guy feels it and another does not is no mistery fellas! We are ALL different in infinite ways. Some are just more in-tune with their vehicles. Maybe some know what to pay attention to and others don't... Who knows and who cares?

Bottom line is NO ONE can dispute that synthetics (generally) are better than conventionals.

True some conventionals are as good or better than some synthetics. But I believe from all the information that synthetics are the way to go.

Why are we all so **** about our oils? Chances are, your going to sell that damn thing before you get to 9,000,000,0000,000 miles anyway. I did!

Nice to have a little humor!

The Highlander is pretty quick with a 3.0 V6 220 HP on 91+ octane. Ofcourse you have the option of running 87 for around 190 HP or 89 for around 205 HP. The computer adusts for the octane and produces more HP based on the octane. In a way, I have a "built-in" SuperChip!!! You can really feel the difference between 87 and 93 but its not immediate. Too soon to tell about mileage only 2500 miles on the vehicle. However, I get about 18-19 City and 22-23 Highway (3.0 + AWD). If you get on it a lot you get about 12 city.

HATE the transmission shifts. VERY slow, no firmness, they kill the engine during shifts, etc... Made for the wuss!

I think the 0-60 times are ok, around 8.7 or 8.8. Would be more like 8.0 or even mid 7's with a firm shift! You loose more time during the shift on this vehicle than any other I've ever driven. BUT its still very fun to drive. It feels like a very tight, well built, and nimble SUV. Did MUCH better in the off-set crash test than the F150. Basically, if you hit a tree at any speed above 40 MPH in an F150 YOUR DEAD!

Take a look for yourself.

Oh, AND YES I will be switching over to Amsoil after while. (just so we can say we added to the thread)

After reading all of this, I think I may switch over to Synthetic in my F-150. I'm gonna use Mobil 1 because thats what I use in everything else. What type of Trans fluid do you guys recommend. Also, I'm gonna change the Diff. fluid, What type of REDLINE fluid should I use? Should I use the Limited Slip 75w90 or a different weight thats not for limited slip? Thanks.

I see you haven't changed a bit, always trying to get in that final jab. I hope your brakes are better than the Tundra's .
