I'm looking at a 97 with a 4.6L Triton and 64,000 highway miles. This truck is extremely well cared for, but how long can I expect to drive until we're looking at major or minor repairs? Anyone seen one yet with 150,000 miles?

 

If well taken care of, I would think you can get at least 200k miles..
You'll probably have 'minor' repairs to do, in that time.

I have an 89' Ford ranger (2.9L v6), with 190K miles and running fine..

I expect to get the same reliability with my SuperDuty..

Exactly....little stuff like starters, bearings, etc can be expected to go bad..however, the truck itself should be in good shape for another 100,000 miles at least. 64,000 miles on a newer vehicles today (that has proven to be reliable) is nothing. Little problems are expected.

One of the biggest factors is to keep ALL fluids changed regularly (especially the engine oil and filter).

If the truck was taken care of, it should be fine. You will still have the normal stuff to do. But over all should do fine. Go for it!!!!!!!!!/b]Lariat#1[/b]

I agree with Dustoff, get the oil changed every 3000 miles, and keep everything maintained, and you'll see 200k no problem. The tritons are very reliable engines.

 

Oh ya, The hiway patrol and sheriffs patrol and the city cops all use trusty 4.6L's in crown vics. I have a friend who is a Sheriff's deputy and claims several have 150k and higher with slight maintence. The Triton's OHC design is like imports. And everyone knows the life expectancy of those.

I have 109,000 on mine 4.6L in a 1997 F150XLT 4X4.
I have asked a similar question sometime ago and have had answers that some guy has 188,000 and running great.
I did extensive research and have been told that the engine is built to very tight tolerances and with proper care will last almost forever.
I was impressed enough to buy my 1997 with 103,000 on it.

 

I have 181,000 on mine 4.6L in a 1997 F150 XLT 4X4. running great.

 

nice dig up... Threads only over 11 years old. I'm sure he bought the truck already. Probably put 150k on it since and still going.

 

 

Don't sweat the miles mine is a 98 bought it with 131000 it has 257000 now. Just had to do the normal stuff, alternator and tune ups. Just pulled it and put new gaskets and valve seals in it and dropped it back in and its running strong.
