Thumbs up

Thanks all, for the great info. I found a shop in Houston to do the plugs for a reasonable price. I guess I'll do the finish work myself(wires and coils) Or maybe even give them the wires, too.
Don't get me wrong, I've done several engine swaps and other automotive jobs myself. I'd rather have someone else be responsible if it gets screwed up,,,,98

Thumbs up kruck:

Mines a 97 and I'm pretty sure it came from the factory that way. While it makes changing the filter easier, it sure is in a vunurable spot. Some good ol' fasion wheelin' could put it in harms way pretty easily

How long are the coil packs rated for? And, even more importantly, what has been the _actual_ life of these things? And for the true gearheads out there: Are these things better than the tried and true distributer? Having no moving parts can be a good thing but...

They stopped using the remote oil filter setup by 1999. It was standard equipment on 4x4 models only.

LMAO. That's a joke. My 97 has the oil filter right on the block. That thing is a PITA to change.

Just got the accel coils and wires

I was/am having a misfire on #3 cyl and noticed that my el cheapo wires were arcing all over the place. So I sent a rush order from Jegs for the Accel wires (5137B) for 75.99 and the coils (140018) for 54.99. I have yet to install but plan to early 12/1/01, I am not concerned with picking up lots of power or throttle. Just want my truck to run at 100%. The stock coils are not shot but may be weak and at 130K figured it was a good idea to replace them. I have picked up some extra wire spacers and some heat resistant sleves to help these new wires last as long as possible.

I did notice one thing though on these Accel wires. Unlike the stock and stock replacement wires the Accel wires only have one clip to hold them down on the coil pack. I tried a little test fit and they do fit on tight but still all it would take is one clip instead of two to pop off and there goes a wire. I do not like that idea, is anyone having any problems with that? F150 Ram Air?
