The use of AMSOIL 100% Synthetic 5W-30 Motor Oil will not void new vehicle warranties. New vehicle warranties are based on the use of oils meeting specific API and ILSAC service classifications and SAE viscosity grades. AMSOIL 100% Synthetic 5W-30 meets the current API, ILSAC and SAE requirements (as labeled) and is perfectly suited for use in any new vehicle stipulating those requirements as manufacturer's recommendations.
All AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils dramatically outperform conventional petroleum motor oils. They reduce friction, heat and wear for maximum power, performance and fuel efficiency. Resistant to high temperature burn-off, chemical breakdown and sludging -- keeps engines cleaner. Provide low temperature fluidity for fast, dependable winter starts and immediate start-up protection. Exceed the most demanding world-wide performance standards and meet warranty requirements for all domestic and imported passenger car engines, both turbo-charged and non-turbo-charged. Up to 25,000-mile or 1-year drain intervals. Product Code: ASL
So is this stuff really better than Mobil1 ?

I for one called the 800 number and asked for the recommended drain intravals for mobil 1 and amsoil. Mobil 1 recommended 5000-7000 miles and amsoil recommended 25000 miles. I for one am changing to synthetic after reading about the benifits. Furthermore, I will only be using Amsoil as an outside source did testing on taxis in New York and one fleet got Amsoil put in and never changed (they did change the filter element, the other fleet had pet. oil changed every 3000 miles (just like a lot of us). They tore the motors down and the Amsoil motors showed much less wear.
It blew my mind. The test went over a 60,000 mile period. If anyone would care to go to this information here is the link:
www.mr2.com/TEXT/synth_oil.txt
This is a very long winded article but it made me put it in my truck. And we thought we were being good to our trucks by changing every 3000 miles.

Has FORD stated that you can go the 25,000 mile interval if you use AMSOIL?

How does ford know how long you went between oil changes??
They don't. If your engine fails they must have other proof besides a sales reciept!
Lets say you go to quickie joe's lube for your oil changes every 3,000 exactly. Then you decide to go on vacation and you happen to need an oil change while you are in tippicanoe. So you go to Hal's quick lube. Then in the midst of your vacation you loose your reciept. Well. And as you pull into your drive way your engine quits. Well then you tow it to Ford and they say Where is your receipt for your last oil change. "we won't fix your truck because you didn't change your oil."" Righttttt.
If your oil is doing its job then ford is the one to blame not your oil.

Although MSPARKS appears to have some conflict (don't know for sure), he is right that FORD cannot prove your oil change interval. They can, however, test your oil and if it is beyond specs, they would have some standing to deny your claim. On another note, has anyone used the Amsoil remote filter/bypass filter kit and if so, what was your experience? Seems like a good idea and might just improve access to the filter on the 2000's.

msparks,, I've been all over the net and through our local yellow pages to find an Amsoil rep and cannot find one. I know that there is not much exciting in Rochester NY but it seems odd that I cannot locate the product a little easier. I wish to spin on one of the extended service oil filters. After all, from what I'm reading lately, I want the best filter I can get to go along with the Synthetic oil. Definately the cheapest insurence in my book!!

XLT Jake,
I have not used the by-pass. But other that have love it.
Yes it would make the acess to your filter easier for the 99. the hook-up for the filter goes right where the full flow goes, then you mount the duel combination in a convienent location. In thearticle this is what they use to go the whole 60,000 miles without an oil change: http://www.mr2.com/TEXT/synth_oil.txt
Here is a good picture of it: http://www.amsoil.com/lit/g385.pdf
when you click on it go to page 5 and it is right there. Also note that it filters particles down to 1/10 of a micron.

Well, again I was reading the posts and thought I would reply only from an experience perspective.
I am an Amsoil Dealer and have used Amsoil for approximately 20 years. They are the only synthetic motor oil company to be around 25 years.
I have a 98 F-150 4x4 ext. cab 5.4 liter engine. I broke it in on Motorcraft oil for 6k miles before switching to Amsoil 0-30W Series 2000 motor oil.
I previously had a 1982 F-150 step-side 4x4 with a 351 cid engine. Again, broke it in with Motorcraft and used Amsoil 10w-40 until I sold the truck with 250k miles. Not one engine related problem experienced. To date, the truck is still running with over 300k.
With my 98, I installed the by-pass oil filter and Amsoils full flow filter too. I used the biggest by-pass filter that they make which increases the sump capacity by almost two quarts.
Some answers to your questions,
Can Ford void warranty for using Synthetic Oil. Ford must prove that engine failure was oil related. Amsoil guarantees replacement of engines or compontents if proven they failed due to the oil. To date, they have never recorded one payment of such, and I know their ethics, it's not because they fight to keep from paying one. The stuff is that good.
The bypass filter filters down to one micron. A human hair is approximately 15 to 20 in diameter. I usually drain the oil at 18k intervals. I don't have to. The Series 2000 0-30w drain interval is 35k or one year.
I have taken the oil to one year with previous vehicle many times without experiencing one problem. Furthermore, when I had removed the valve covers to replace the gaskets, no sludge, build-up or tarnish of anykind---It's that good.
I use the same series 2000 in my Thunderbird Super Coupe. I currently have 139k on it and not one engine related problem to date.
Hope this helps, Regards

What is the cost of this by-pass filter system and how much is the oil per qt? My truck is a lease i will change it at 3ooo and turn it in. maybe that extened drain is for some people not for me , are you required to have it sampled? I am a diesel mech we do sampling here and it's not free, so what is the amount you will save? The bottom line is if it's under warranty ford has the final say, it they are paying , fight it if you want i don't have the time.
My lease is a 36,ooo mile lease that's 13 oil changes at less than $15.oo thats add up to approx $195.00 not bad over three years. just my .o2 cents

Here we go again….. You sales guys get me going.
I want this to remain a good old fashion debate and turn into a p***ing contest.
So here we go……
In the statement, “We are the only one that has been around for 25 + years”. Does that mean that being around the longest means your product is that much more superior in overall operation/value/availability ??? Just because Xerox made copiers first, does that mean that no other company can compete with it for overall operation/value/availability ??? No way.
Also, you guys keep stating that your vehicle has XXX,XXX miles on it with no oil related failure while using “Amsoil” brand of oil. What do you think the percentage of oil related engine failure is industry wide ??? A very low percentage, I’m sure.
Here are some points to consider and ask yourself:
Point 1: Older engines had wider tolerances than the new ones. This has been discussed many times on this board and every other one. In the “Old days” you could run 10w40, 15w40 or straight weight oil in your vehicles and get away with it. How many of you have done this before ??? Would you now ???
Point 2: Motor oils are constantly improved all of the time. Even you guys acknowledge that.
Point 3: NO ONE ever said that synthetic oil will void your warranty. You can even use regular motor oil as long as it meets the specified specs and viscosity that your manual calls for. This means even a $ .59 a quart generic brand could be used as long as it meets the Ford’s Specs.
Point 4: In a statement that “AMSOIL never has replaced an engine for oil related failures” So ! What do you think Amsoil’s total market share is ??? I am sure it is less than 1 % of total oil sales in the U.S. for passenger cars and trucks !!
Here is an example back to you: Quaker State gets bashed all of the time on this and every other board for their oil, correct ??? But they have a 250,000 mile warranty if you use their oil, correct ??? I’m quit sure they sell a LITTLE more oil than Amsoil in a year. I’m also sure that they are a more easily recognized brand name by the “Average Joe/Jane” than Amsoil will ever be. I’m also quite sure that they have not had to replace an engine lately or they will in the near future either. They are probably banking on the customer not keeping the car that long, keeping track all of the receipts or some other fine print item in the warranty. Wanna bet ??
Point 5: New and improved sales tactics. Would you do these items personally on your vehicle???
Some auto companies state that you can go 100,000 miles before a tune-up. Would you ?
Automatic transmission fluids that never have to be changed for the life of the vehicle. Would you ?
How many of you believed the Slick 50 hype and the sales pitch and even bought it and then felt deceived after the class action lawsuit came out???
Final Point: IT IS THE DRAIN INTEVALS and VISCOSITY that Ford MIGHT void your warranty for !!!
I am not personally going to risk my warranty for such a cheap insurance policy as an oil change. Why would you??
