Post K&N vs Airaid vs Velocity tube....

Ive just updated my web page and have added a page that compares all three. It might help those who have some basic questions about the difference, price, where do get them, etc...

Thanx, I have been wondering the difference on the three. I think I will still go with the K&N system.

Question

One more thing New2Ford, was the combination of the Hypertech chip and the K&N FIPK worth the money and how well does it perform?

I like my K&N FIPK. I bought the chip used for $100. The combo works well together, but Im glad I didnt pay full price for the chip. Its not that nice. Dont get me wrong it works the way they say it will at WOT, changes shift points and stuff, but I would rather have the Superchip because it works all the time.

PS. Glad to hear the info on the comparisons helped!

Cool

I have the WMS Velocity tube with a K&N filter, I was concidering the K$N Gen 2, but didn't like the fact that it can draw hot air from the engine compartment.
I feel more power especially above 2000 rpms, and when passing. It gives the truck a little throughtier sound, but is probebly quieter than the K&N or the Airaid, due to the stock air box. Also it replaces the restrictive intake before the Air box with a wider tube going into the fender.
I also like they way it looks, it is a improvement over the factory set up, and I feel any power difference is very small between the three units.

Don C,

Thanks for the comments on the Velocity Tube. I have one on order and hope to have it installed by this weekend. Any install tips you can share? I have the same engine you have! Thanks in advance!

F150LowDown,
Not a stupid question at all, I didnt know about this airbox mod thing untill I read about it on this site. Go here: www.f150online.com/tech/airbox.html
A member did an bit on it with pics and everthing. It just basically cuts away part of the airbox so the air filter can get more air, more air more hps. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions and I will try to help.

Man, these tubes look to be just 3" mandrel bent elbows that have been coated or chromed. I assume the open element kit has a bracket for the MAF sensor?

Are you on a low budget?, go to http://www.bakerprecision.com/purosil.htm and order some 3" tube, then go to http://www.racesearch.com/CGI/racese...at2=1013&at3=0 &at4=0
and get a stainless elbow some clamps and for about $85 you can have one yourself, go get a regular steel elbow from JC Whitney and have it chromed for even less than stainless.

This is easy power and if you go with an open filter like the K&N, get the one for the stock airbox and open up the inlet side of the box per the Tech Tip http://216.167.31.120/tech/airbox.html

Just my cheap .02¢,
birdman

Paul the only problem I had, is there is about a 3 inch long hose under the plastic cover.I had to go to the Auto parts store and get a heater hose a inch or so longer.

By the way I have some pics of my truck online now http://sites.netscape.net/dhco/

Hope to have more soon
Don
