Injector type on stock 99 5.4?

I know it is 19 lb, but is it a 4 hole? What generation?
I think I might have one acting up. I'm thinking about buying a matched reman set, but not sure which to get.

as old as that truck is, it might have newer injectors

easiest way to find out, is to pull the injectors and see

How can I tell by looking?
The injectors are original.

you have to look at the discharge holes to see for sure but if they are the originals they aren't the best ones

EV1 is the style of plug required for your engine wiring harness

I found these which claim t be an upgrade over what I have. Would these work without having to change a fuel rail or harness?

For anyone's future reference these Injector will work.
I am hoping this will cure hesitation at part throttle under load and bring back lost power. Everything else has been tried.

Here's a little more for yuh's,-

Right, those are what I use white elephant, I've been running them since fall of 08. Mine are EV6 Vic injectors tho. I went that route only because the seller thru in the injector/engine harness, - I couldn't pass up that deal. I think I paid 60 bucks for all that back then lol.

It's exactly as tarajerame posted earlier EV1 and EV6 are just connector type. Ford used the EV6 connector type (tall skinny and loud 4 port injectors lol) on the older Crown Vics and a few others. The EV1 (fat bodies, single port injectors) were used on the F150's.

From the factory, all 97-03 150's were EV1/Single port 19lb AFAIK.

Today, and I'm not sure when Bosch did this, but they upgraded the Fat Body injectors to 4 port (4 bottom holes) ? Well, anyway, you can easily purchase these now, new and rebuilt (sonic cleaned, new filters and hats).

4 ports offer better atomization. Better mileage ? Not IMO, but they may contribute to it (a little) IF, you have all your maintenance (everything) up to par.

Which 4 ports are better (tall skinny or fat bodies) ? Not sure, but I do know the tall skinny injectors are loud enough that I can hear them clicking away laying under the truck just below the headers lol. Injectors resignate inside the headers. Not real bad, but you CAN hear them and yes, I'm sure they are the injectors.

Question, - so why didn't Ford use the 4 port design on the F150's back then?
The Crown Vics had them (10th generation) back then... I'm not sure, can only guess.

BTW, -If you do end up with EV6 injectors. Old Ford Fuel injection and the Rjm site sell little connector adapters for your harness, - "EV1 to EV6". That's if they are still in business. I haven't been able to get to their site in some time. Sucks, I used them allot in the past for those hard to find parts.

Thanks for the heads up on the noise brew. I just hope i don't hear it when the hood is closed! I wonder if Bosch used the steel in the "fat bodies" to deaden noise.?
I'm hoping the injectors give me the same results you got with your truck and I got out of my big outboard; smoother running and better throttle response.
My 98 4.6 gradually started losing power and throttle response off the low end. This 5.4 has been this way from the get go for the most part. With an 87 and 93 performance tune, it gets up and runs, but towing tunes when it has to run a lot more fuel it won't run quite right. Light pinging like a cylinder or 2 are running lean. Also surging and missing at low rpm with a load. No codes either. The only part of the system that hasn't been serviced/replaced are the injectors. My theory is that there is some gunk most fuel cleaners won't remove from injectors after so many years. It made a hell of a difference on my 15 year old outboard. Im hoping for the same on my truck engine!
I should probably do a strong decarb too, but I don't want to have to pull or trash my expensive denso's just yet! If this doesn't work I'll wish i had considering I'd have all the ***** removed to get access!

Right! Here's the old factory injector and HP ratings (Ford Racing) chart from that site,-

http://oldfuelinjection.packrad.net/page38.html

Yea Ryan, the owner,- real good guy and knows theses trucks well. Was also into the older Broncos way back when. Ford had a problem with the site name at one time...use to be "Ford Fuel Injection" at one time. It was under that name for quite awhile before Ford decided they had a problem with it. From what I recall, Ryan was quite bitter about Ford problem with it. As you most likely suspect, - going against Ford on this wasn't worth effort.

So, -the name was changed (OldFordFuelInjection first, -then OldFuelInjection)and he also owned RJM as a products site for parts. Good stuff and he new the in and outs of what he sold....Top notch stuff. Was really a one of kind site IMO. There were how-to links and a ton of Tech info.

I last ordered from RJM back about 6-8 months ago...- a bunch of alternator stuff for my 3G, - also some factory Ford connectors/Ford crimping tool. The only place I could find the connector type needed for my harness. That was a great find for me, -meant I didn't have to change both male/female all the time lol. , -Good Gold Connectors!

RJM is gone for now, - hope Ryan brings it back, but it doesn't look good.
